Got the office to myself today so I'm going to work through some of the Glasto sets. Starting with The National, Fake Empires to start and I've already got the chills. This strawberry floating band are incredible, can't wait for the new album.

Was this the best ever overall line up of Glastonbury. Not just the headline acts but looking at all the names that appeared, it seemed a very impressive line up across the weekend.

Also I didn't realise that there's no festival next year as they are allowing a year for the ground to repair.

:dread: Not by a looooong way. I can't dig it out right now as I'm at work, but one one the last ones I went to 6 or so years ago was strawberry floating insane. I think it had a run of great bands I wanted to see on each of the main stages from lunch time on each day, to the point where I was missing bands all over the shop due to clashing.

I think the 2019 edition may even be emanating from somewhere in the Midlands.

Nothing to do with age, it was all bands that are still around now and still popular. Was just a crazy line-up.

I thought this year's was gooseberry fool tbh. I've only heard of about 5 of them and I don't really like any of them. I know most of being there is about finding new things, but that's the sort of line-up I used to see and think "oh strawberry floating hell" when I'd already for my ticket.

Off the top of my head and with no comment on quality:

Radiohead
Foo Fighters
Barry Gibb
The Jacksons
Chic
Liam Gallagher
Royal Blood
Katy Perry
Elbow
The Killers
Craig David

You're telling me you haven't heard of at least 6 of those?

6 years ago it was great and Ad7 loved it.

Ad7 in 2011 wrote:I actually live in Glastonbury and didn't bother going in on the sunday at all (we'd been getting the local bus in and out each day).

Last year there was at least 30 bands i properly wanted to see, this year there was 3 :|

Of course its all personal preference but i couldn't be doing with another day of 100k kate moss lookalikes and boners with 'frankie says relax' tshirts on. I only wanted to see queens of the stone age and they were typically on last :fp:

Got twatted on thursday though and saturday was a really good day.

Although to be fair you enjoyed the 2010 one:

Ad7 in 2010 wrote:Well I got back from the festival last night at midnight (local bus FTW!) and what a brilliant time! Not a single drop of moisture the whole time, 5 days of blistering sunshine and I got to see MUSE from near the front, slash and god knows how many other brilliant bands! Now, all i need is a week off to recover 8-)

I can only assume that Christmas 2010 was awful and turned Ad7 into the miserable sod we know and love today. ;)

I've got a sleeping one year old and until he wakes up I have nothing better to do than search for Ad7 quotes. ;)

Was a real mixed bag I thought. Radiohead and Ed Sheeran are polar opposites; loads of grime artists this year. I wanted to be there for Radiohead but actually looking at yesterday's line up I wouldn't be at the three big stages and would have been happier at one of the smaller ones. Not sure if the ticket price would have justified itself really.

I was there 7 years ago (thanks Facebook for reminding me :( ) and it was Gorillaz (who stepped in for U2 after Bonio done his back in) Muse and Stevie Wonder. Can't say that was a much better line up tbh (apart from Stevie Wonder) - you just sort of wondered around until you find something you liked. Vampire Weekend were good.

Struggling to think who they will ask next to headline. So many festivals now they all take it in turn so you always see repeats. I saw Stevie Wonder at Bestival 2 years after Glasto lol. Well they've given themselves an extra year to plan it now.

Plus there's talk of this extra festival they want to put on in the Midlands if that comes of anything.

Coldplay have headlined twice in four years lol

Many of the new bands lack the extra star quality to make it a big band. It like they can't be arsed with the gigging which helps hones their shows - what works on album doesn't work live and vice versa. Saying that though Lynryd Skynyrd, Deep purple and Pink floyd are still around. Wouldn't hurt to ask them!

British bands should step up, instead of wimping out and playing it safe. Bands like The Maccabees would have kicked ass on a spot like that about 5/10 years ago. Bottled it in the studio and went all weak. Bloc Party should have cracked on but wimped out. Franz Ferdinand...British talent just rarely cracks on and takes themselves to the next level.

Radiohead next. After reading this thread though, probably best not to comment.
