Theres an article in The Sun today about our favourite gadgets from the past 75 years, and theres a quote from 11 year olds whos trying some of the older ones out who quite frankly needs a slap!

'HARRY BARNETT was only momentarily impressed with the electronic Invaders from Space console, dating from 1980. The eleven year old and his twin all tried it out at a museum in Essex.

Harry from Cambridge said 'Its a good game, but it does seem a bit old-fashioned. I can see it would have been good for 1980, but thats years ago. I wasn't even expecting it to be electric, I hadn't thought there'd be something like that 20 years ago'.

Eight year old Abbi Minot of Borehamwood tried the Nintendo Gameboy.

'Its old fashioned and a bit boring. I played Tetris on it, which I have on my Nintendo DS - but its not as good on this. Theres no colours on the screen at all. Its all just green and black amd it plays a boring tune over and over. If I took this into school, the other kids would laugh at me and ask me why I'd got such a boring thing.'

Is it wrong to hunt down 11 year olds for sport? This kid has no idea what he's talking about. For one, the Gameboy is still the best handheld ever made and that boring tune has got to be the most addictive tune i've ever heard.

How does that kid think old films were made? What do they teach in schools nowadays? :|

Ahh The Sun, it can always be counted on to find the cream of the British educational system!

These stories are always amusing and I can understand why we need to hunt them down, but unfortunately I dont think that the world has enough petrol for them all.
I was half expecting the usual "bad graphics" comments that tend to be the norm from twelve year olds these days.

(At least they are a little bit smarter than the twelve year olds who couldnt recognise and name common vegetables)

I can't tell if you're all deliberately misunderstanding or not, but the kid quite obviously wasn't saying there was no electricity around 20 years ago. And come on, would you really expect a kid who was born and raised in the PS1/N64 era, and was used to far more advanced games as 'the norm', to really love a Space Invaders arcade cabinet? It's not like he even said it was bad, just dated.

Retro games - nostalgia = objectivity.

The lad is speaking the truth.

I think the call to arms was more over the "Tetris" comment rather than the "electric" one. I have to admit that I was expecting a less thoughtful opinion on Space Invaders.

Think about it like this though... imagine you were born, say, 10 years ago and your family had a DVD player. Every film they owned was on DVD. Subsequently, every film you watched was on DVD. If someone showed you a film for the first time on VHS, would you think to yourself 'I'd rather watch it on DVD' or 'this is amazing technology'? I don't think it's outlandish for kids to be less impressed at something which is (to them) a step backwards, just because we grew up with the stuff.

All it really shows is how much gaming has advanced, which is great, surely?

You seem to be missing the point:

I played Tetris on it .... it plays a boring tune over and over.

He should be culled. It's for the good of everyone. Unless he was listening to the Tetris B Theme, of course.

'Modern kid in 'Not impressed with outdated technology' shocker!'

Anyone even remotely bothered by this needs to take a long hard look at themselves.

I was raised on the N64 as I never had a SNES of my own, but even I enjoy playing Pacman.

Also, I used to prefer Tetris Theme B to A for a while. Now I love them both :P

But Black & white Tetris, on an extremely bulky device at that, is gooseberry fool. I don't want to play Pong or Space Invaders, so why would an 11 year old that's been playing the likes of Grand Theft Auto on the PS3 be interested?

I was expecting a dumber reply about Space Invaders and to be honest i was never a fan of Tetris.
