Why did you originally settle on 150?

Check out my YouTube channel!

On checking I don't own Atomic runner but happy to use the everdrive to play it, I have played it in the past.

Eswat is a game I have played a lot of so it will be done. Again I dont own Ristar or Gunstar Heroes, although I have played a heck of a lot of Gunstar but I am not going to make myself buy the carts for the megadrive, if I dont own them and there not cheap then I will use my Everdrive. Neither of them will be first 10 games though as well you have to space out the well known wanted games as otherwise it ends up where you first 50 games are all really wanted well known stuff and then the next 100 are obscure or unknown and I like to keep it all mixed up.

Ace on using original hardware, though do you have the means to play the games at 60hz? I'd hate for you to suffer through treacley 50hz D:

I have a whole bunch of Megadrives. I have two boxed ones, my childhood one, then a real Japanese Megadrive, but then I also have a Megadrive I have converted to think its American, it was a British one but I have altered it so that it runs at 60hz but in English. Where I can I will try the games on both speeds and see if it seems to alter the game much at all.

You know when it comes to the SNES project I really cant remember. I was unemployed at the time and I was going for a big number that would keep me busy for awhile, the original intention was to treat it like a job and do one a day without fail basically to stop me going mad, I did manage this for about 25 days but its actually darn demanding and when I found work it became hard to even guarantee I would do one a week. I think when I started I owned about 140 games for the SNES so it seemed a good number.

Ah ace! Up until around 1992 or so, pretty much every MD game seems to be region free. After that compatibility can be spotty, from memory I'm pretty sure Gunstar Heroes won't boot if it's on a different region system. For those cases you'll want to be using American NTSC versions on your tricked US system. But aye, many early EU games will work fine on it and even properly scale to 60hz. You occasionally get issues with later PAL games becoming too fast converted but they're the exception.

And honestly, I think it makes a huge difference across the board. Would be super interesting though to see you tackle it on each game; as frustrating as it is in retrospect, 50hz is how we would've experienced these games at the time.

One of the intresting things is that in cases if you shove a European game into a Japanese Megadrive then you will actually get the Japanese title screen etc its like the carts have multiple versions of the game on there and load the one which reflects which machine you have put it in.

I love putting Streets of Rage in a Japanese machine and seeing it say Bare Knuckle.

At the moment I am working on my GreenDog review.

Speeking of hz and partly related, I tricked out a Master System 2 with a speed switch and the funny thing is you can play the game and just toggle the switch and have it speed up and slow down on the fly, I have had a real blast playing Alex the Kid and switching backwards and forwards.

I think more people call it Alex the Kidd than Alex Kidd tbh.

Aye, when I was messing around with modded systems some years back it was always neat to see them load up Japanese title screen and such. I recall a couple of Master System games even flashing the Mark III logo.

And yeah I toyed around with 50/60hz swapping on the fly, I seem to remember a few MD+SNES games would have region lock by way of determining the system's refresh rate. You could get around them by starting in 50Hz and then going to 60hz moments later.

Thank you very much :)

I have a few reviews sort of done, but I took some time out to work on a few of the SNES ones which are going up on Grcade view soon, to add a little bit to them as I think a few of my early SNES ones dont look so good compared to the Megadrive ones. I have also been working on Youtube vids for the snes ones. Pretty much spent all day on Video game reviews today, tomorrow will be very different as back at work bah humbug.

The Third Will be Greendog and it will be up with a video in the none to distant future... Im still writing the 5th, made lousy progress so far.... The third was going to be Buck Rogers Countdown to Doomsday but I want to play around a little with the video for it, so have pushed it back once and may push it back again.
