Wow those posted so far are really good.

So I went with the idea of doing a car for inspector gadget. I looked at his car and tried to incorporate it into mine and I found that I suck. It's boring and doesn't look so good. But it fit what I wanted it to. As little studs showing as possible, sits a minifig and it's solid.

I like it Rog. Reminds me of the Mako in Mass Effect.

I almost left this for tomorrow, but thought sod it. I'm not tired yet anyway. :shifty:

I figured that this being Wacky Races and all I'd go for something ramshackle and asymmetrical, but it took me a few false starts to finally settle on an exact idea. I started with a sort of racing car shape, before switching to a sort of plane-car thing. Then I ditched that and thought of doing a really tall car, but quickly realised that would be a bit foolish bearing in mind the bits available!

Anyway, after that I thought of building a car with a big, hinged gun on the side, which was kind of working until it came to the actual gun. Once again I didn't really think the bits worked, at least without building a rather too sci-fi like laser type thing. Then I realised that I could mount the hinge on the front instead of the back and turn it into a catapult. Perfect! A few decorative enhancements later and I ended up with the finished attempt.

Behold! The Catabolt 9000!

In the spirit of Wacky Races I've gone with the concept of the vehicle being able to shift its wheel position to give it the upper hand. It gives it tactical advantages for crossing water, becoming very wide to block on the straights, can move sideways and can turn on a dime.

I've noticed you all like smoothing off the bumps with those flat bits.

Bugger. I knew there was something I was supposed to pick up this weekend. Any idea how long we're going to run this for? Might have chance to nip into town one lunchtime this week. It's on 2 for £15 at Argos, as is the CITY helicopter and a Monster Fighter set. Tempted :shifty:

Okay, so at first I thought we had to replicate a Wacky Racer so I made this pathetic mess:

Then I realised we could create our own, so I quickly dismantled it and built this one. Let's call it the Dreg Dumper, for the box o'crap on the back and the 'funnel' to drop it into the path of others.

Can't say I was overly happy with that, either. So I took it all apart again and finally created my Wacky Racer, the ThingLonger.

Why the ThingLonger? Ta-da!

It's to steal a win when neck-and-neck near the finish line. :)

I like how your "pathetic mess" was less messy than mine. :shifty:

And yeah, that final model is inspired. I am not worthy.

Nah, it kept falling apart when I moved it! Flimso-matic.

The extendo stuff was really a fallback plan. I did want a racer with two long legs that could flip upright into a 'bipedal' position and drive over others (legs and wheels going around them, if that makes sense) but I couldn't get the angles to work. Then I tried a car capable of extending widthways to stretch its wheels to either side of, say, a canyon, but it was too imbalanced. The only way to make it work was to flip the pespective and make it extend forwards.
