2018 New Years Resolutions

Hey all,

We've had that one thread but it's confusing as hell now. What are your resolutions for this next year? We can hopefully all look back this time next year and see if we managed them!

Spend more time with my Dad - since moving out from his I barely ever get to see him and I never get any one on one time with him anymore, I'd like that to change.

Aim for a raise at work - I've just been promoted, but my money hasn't gone up as much as I hoped. I'm going to see if I can manage to get another raise this year.

Learn to drive - I've had this on for 2 years, but I've never had the money, but dealing with the busses annoyed me to gooseberry fool in 2017 and I want more free time outside of work which driving will solve.

Already quit smoking, drinking and after an 18 month break I'm back doing martial arts. So, New Year resolutions? We'll I'm really going to be cutting back on game buying so I can concentrate on my back catalogue. My plan is to limit myself to just three new games for the whole year. A tad easier will be that I'm going to read a lot more books this year. Barely touched any last year.

So nothing too difficult. Piece of piss really.

Took my 2017 resolutions very seriously and tracked them with a spreadsheet, hitting 5/6. Will be doing the same this year.

Read 40 books cover to cover
    Less than 80 cigarettes
50,000 words written of next novel
1% of basic salary to charity
    £xxx invested into portfolio

The one I missed last year was an exercise goal (52 swims/managed 35), which I am less motivated to bother doing this year, so being realistic and cutting it.

Everyone seems to give up smoking for the new year and so I’ve decided to help out our cigarette industry and start smoking again.

80 a day should do it. :datass:

Goals which will aim to have a positive outcome, and a goal in which a status will change.

I.E.

Current state: Not being able to drive
Goal: Learn to drive.
Positive change: Being able to drive

For our moggy:

Current state: Not smoking
Goal: To improve tobacco industry through smoking
Positive change: Looks cool as all heck.

I mean there is nothing stopping people to have a goal with a negative outcome/change But then the same is true in the picture.

Y'all don't need to wait until the new year to strawberry float up your life! :toot:

I’m not really about to start up smoking again.

Although I do always smoke when I go out drinking. Nights out are few and far between nowadays though!

Pay my mortgage off a little.
Keep my job.
Get better at guitar/bass. Practice like a bastard. Sort my crap technique out. Get better gear.
Learn a skill that I can use as a stepping for getting a different job.
Learn how to cook.
Buy a Nintendo Switch.
Get through my gaming backlog.
Stop drinking so many fizzy drinks.

You can try and make a change at any point in the year, but making a resolution is basically just a tradition and is probably the easiest point to try and make a change.

This year I'm going to try and finish work on time (I'll start with 3 days per week).

Not really got any concrete, would like to be less fat and lazy. I was going to cycle to work a lot last year but I never really did, sort of got depressed about the job and company so it was hard to get motivated cycling to a place I didn't want to go, but I'm changing jobs in a couple of weeks so hopefully that will help.

Wife and I made some as a couple, whilst driving back up North after Christmas.

Be tidier
Be more sociable
Be more adventurous
Do a proper weekly food shop/plan meals better
Ban mobiles from the living room (unless necessary; this is more of a 'ban idle phone scrolling' thing)
Make another baby (or at least one of us to enjoy trying)

All fairly realistic. Al things we don't do much of at the minute... :|

Those two don't really complement each other. Believe me.

I've got so many bad habits. I need to cut my drinking right down to almost never and stop smoking altogether. I also want to read more and go to the cinema loads more. Having sex would be nice too, albeit unlikely. God, I'm so lonely!

“Let’s be more adventurous this year!”
“How?”
“Dunno, tidy up a bit and make a weekly meal plan?”
“Awesome”

Stop wasting money.
I don't really buy stuff anymore really anyway, like I don't buy videogames unless they are super mega reduced now. I don't buy beer very often anymore, whisky hardly ever.

But more on evenings when the missus doesn't know what to cook, I'll pop to the shop and buy a dinner. All silly little bits of money that don't need to be spent.

If I could reign that in this year, I'll be happy.

And, of course, as always: Have a threesome with two hot girls.
