YouGov wrote:27% of the UK admits to taking an illegal substance according to a new survey conducted by YouGov

While the majority of the UK has not, or is unwilling to admit to, having taken an illegal drug, 27% of the population confesses to doing so. 64% said they have never taken an illegal drug, with a further 6% refusing to say.

According to the poll, those who identify as Labour, aged 25-49, and also live in London are the most likely to have taken illegal drugs.

Age is a factor across the board, with only 10% of those aged 65 and over, and 23% of 50-65 year olds, saying they have consumed an illegal substance. This compares to 28% of 18-24 year olds and 36% of 25-49 year olds.

Conservatives are the least likely to have experienced illegal drug use, with only 20% saying they had done so, followed by SNP on 24%, UKIP on 25% and Liberal Democrat 29%, compared to 34% for Labour.

London comes out on top for drug use compared to any other part of the United Kingdom, and substantially so - 10 points higher on 36% when compared to the next nearest region(s): the rest of the South and North on 26%, and Scotland also on 26%. Midlands and Wales are the least likely to have taken illegal drugs on 23%.

Drug use amongst Men is also considerably more likely than with Women, with 31% of Males saying they have taken illegal drugs, in contrast to 22% of Females.

Those classified as social grades A, B, and C1 are just as likely to have taken drugs as C2, D, and E on 27 and 26 points respectively, with 64% of both groups saying they have never taken drugs.

Will be interesting to see how GRcade compares to the general population...

85% of us voted against Brexit from memory, so I wouldn't expect us to go with public opinion  - I'm fairly boring on this sort of topic. I smoked weed at college parties like everybody else around me between 2007 and 2009 but I've not been more adventurous than that. I wouldn't smoke anything now and definitely wouldn't ever take anything/inject anything.

I’d imagine that means 50% plus of the UK lie when taking surveys.

I used to a bit of a stoner in my college days. I still smoke a little now and then but it's becoming an increasingly rare treat the older I get.

I have also taken some "legal" pills a couple of times the active ingredient in which is now a Class A I believe.

So that's how Corbyn got elected Labour leader.

I'm not against things like cannabis, but I'm against funding organised crime, so I haven't

My mental health is very fragile so I stay away from drugs and I don't even really drink nowadays. Nothing against it from a moral standpoint though. Would be good if it were legal and regulated so it didn't have to involve gangs.

Wish someone would invent weed that doesn't stink though, that smell has definitely become a pet peeve of mine. :x Students!!!

I really struggle to hold my tongue when people casually talk about the illegal drugs they've taken/are taking. In most cases (unless you grow your own, I guess?) you're lining the pockets of criminal organisations.

"So what? It's just some weed, bro" - is the usual response. But the dealer you get your weed from works for someone that takes a big cut of that money. These criminal organisations don't just sell drugs. Human trafficking, gang violence, prostitution, murder, racketeering, slavery, extortion etc - your money helps fund and expand their activities.

Well done, you knobheads.

Every drug I've ever taken (consensually - had my drink spiked once) has been legal in the country I was in

(Yes I may have done a Qikz and gone to 'Dam for some shrooms)

So much this! It's properly grim. :dread:

I've never partaken knowingly, I ate some cake once with weed in it though. Had no effect.

Why about countries where it's legal?

I’m not sure that all weed dealers work for massive criminal organisations that also take part in human trafficking. For instance I used to know a dealer who grew his own.

The “you’re funding criminals” argument is stolen direct from movie anti-piracy adverts as well.

Plus you’re getting angry at the wrong people. You will never ever stop people from wanting to take drugs.

The solution isn’t to try and make people feel guilty over a spliff they smoked 20 years ago. The solution is to take the trade away from the nasty criminals and hand it over to the corporate criminals through legalisation.

I used to know a dealer and his was home grown, he was in to ballroom dancing and it funded this mostly. It's the same as the last dvd pirate I knew he was a little old man who used it to buy little treats for him and his wife, meals out, flowers stuff like that.

A lot of this if you buy drugs or a pirate film then your funding a massive criminal cartel is just scare mongering. Let's face it an add that said " don't fund piracy you'll get Nigel a few pints down the pub and then allow him to return home with fish and chips and some flowers for his wife florance" wouldn't really scare many people off buying pirate film's or such.
