Post360 wireless controller - can it be used wired on a PC?

OK - here's my dilemma

I have a 360 wireless controller which i'd like to use with my PC for playing emulators/MAME etc. etc.

I have no wireless features on my PC at all, so I hoped to be able to connect my 360 wireless pad via the play and charge kit to a USB port on my PC and I 'hoped' it would see it and be able to be used - no luck. I tried a few drivers from Msoft website but nothing seemed to work.

Can it be connected in this way? or do I need to buy one of these -

Thanks in advance

As far as I'm aware, there's no way to connect a wireless pad to a PC via the play and charge kit. There used to be a wireless adaptor available for PC though, which would allow your pad to connect wirelessly, but I'm not sure if they're still available.
