A fair assessment, whether you judge the game as an action game or as an adventure. The "puzzles never really rise beyond "go here and look at some stuff, then talk to a dude" punctuated by occasional perfunctory shootouts & brawls. Theres the foundations of a decent game, but at no point do the training wheels ever come off.

It's largely been the fierce atmosphere and and utter lack of gameplay roadblocks thats kept me playing.

Yeah i read this article the other day. I could not help but shake my head at this bit though...i actually can't tell if they were being serious or joking to be honest...

This means that Official N64 Magazine thinks Turok 2 looks better than Uncharted 3, Crysis and Battlefield 3. We also heard that the reviewer said Nathan Drake's mum is a promiscuous hussy. We may have just made that bit up - in for a penny in for a pound, right?

As for the general gist of the topic...the one that springs to mind without doubt is GTA 4. Not because of any nostalgia to the previous GTA's but simply put there are too many flaws in the game for it to have got 10's in my opinion. There's probably a ton more than i can think of when i get the time.

That's the stupidest criticism of a game mechanic I've ever read.

Not really. He's basically bemoaning the lack of a fail-state, which is understandable. If your main selling point is the interrogations, you dont expect them to boil down to multiple choice questionaires.

I meant the line about 'We're pretty sure there's no do-overs in real interrogations'. Because if we're going to start criticising games for things they do that aren't exactly the same as real life then I think a far more pressing concern would be that every game ever seems to think that if you die you can have another go.

I DON''T THINK IN REAL LIFE IF YOU DIE YOU GET ANOTHER GO. EVERY GAME IS gooseberry fool.

Thats the most ridiculous nonsense you've ever posted.

If you are saying most places over score most games, you'd be right, but that has always been the case.

I think if you asked people to name 10 games they thought were over-rated the vast majority would be from this gen.

The added polish all games have these days leads people to overlook poor gameplay a lot more

I think you're onto something there.

As for LA Noire though, it's by far my favourite game this year, behind Skyrim (natch). Loved it. The game is all about the storyline. It's basically an interactive movie. I loved the story (especially the twist) and so I loved the game. Thought the gameplay was good too, though. In my view, if you didn't get on with the game you either didn't like the story, didn't pay attention to the story or are an ADHD Modden Wahfeh playing type.

The thing is, as a game it wasn't remotely firing on all cylinders, and as an interactive movie, it wasn't terribly interactive.

it might as well have been a movie -thats what its actually good at being.

Seconded. It really wasn't that bad. Remember it came out in the period between Perfect Dark and GoldenEye. As far as console FPS's went in the mid-90s it was a stonker.

The save points were a strawberry floating joke in that game.

One of the later ones took about 3 hours to actually complete and there was one save point.

ONE.
