3D Platformers are back!

A Hat in Time is developed by Gears for Breakfast and has become the largest Kickstarter-funded indie 3D platformer, reaching almost 1000% of its original Kickstarter goal!

Super Mario 64, Banjo-Kazooie, Psychonauts! These kind of 3D platformers are no longer made, but people still want to play them! A Hat in Time aims to bring the genre back!

Travel with Hat Kid as she tries to recover the hourglass-shaped fuel for her spaceship! Race to collect them all, as everyone else on the planet are hunting for them as well, including the evil little Mustache Girl!

Upgrade your hat by attaching badges to it and defeat everyone in your way with your trusty umbrella!

Just want to get out my annoyance of everytime a 3D platformer is revealed its "3D PLATFORMERS ARE BACK".

Still, been following this since it's early announcement. Looks... less graphically as good as it was when announced - still looks nice though.

Are Gears for Breakfast a break off from another company because how in the hell has this become the largest indie 3D platformer otherwise?!

Not sure how it actually is the largest Kickstarter funder 3D Platformer...unless they aren't actually talking about its funding in which case its just plain misleading.

The main character design is so uninspiring.

Obviously the gameplay is more important, but wow those graphics are poor. They are probably going for amateurish-but-endearing but the lighting model is all wrong and the lack of quality is too inconsistent to give you trust that it's deliberate.

Look at the comparative high-poly nature of the player character compared to everything else, or the thickness of the tarpaulin, the repeated reflection texture, the aliasing on the shadow in the upper-right, the state of that rubber texture on the tyres, the weird-ass lighting gradients everywhere...

Feels like I've been hearing about this game since 1998.

Glad it's coming out. We need a 3D platformer resurgence.

Footage of the stage in that screen:

If that's a true representation of that stage/the game, then I'd be happy to give it a bash.

This game has been in development for a while; it was Kickstarter-funded to the note of $296k back in June 2013. I guess it was the "largest-funded 3D platformer" at the time, being pre-Yooka days.

Didn't this used to look more cel-shaded? Sure it looked better than this before

Stretch goal - make it look like a 2 man team mobile game

Man, this has been in development for a while now. Still pretty interested in it, despite the not-so-impressive visuals. Here's a preview from July 2013 to compare visuals:

I fully expect Nintendo to cough up a wad of cash to get this onto the Switch.

Christ, I kickstarted this like 3-4 years ago. Completely forgot about it and thought it had fallen off of the side of the Earth.
