I did, but I went out and bought the wheel especially for it...very disappointing. I was expecting an Arcade like experience and it just wasn't, the wheel was rubbish basically...

...although with the official 360 wheel now...perhaps...

That really is a lovely piece of artwork, Suzz. Looks like someone, somewhere deep inside the smoking remnants of the Sega Corporate Machine remembered what it was used to give their games that 'woo-hoo!' feeling.

Sega arcade games were always better in the Arcade .. with the exception of the Saturn Rally conversion, all the home versions of the classic early 90s period were awful.

OutRun rules them all by the way ... closely followed by multi-player Daytona. F355 was s h i t.

Sorry about the title change but some people were missing the topic because of it's cryptic nature.

:shifty:

Thanks Peter

Remember when we reported that SEGA Europe had licensed “SEGA Racing Classic” for Arcade machines and coin-operated machines? No? Well I forgive you, because I completely forgot about it too. Anyway here’s a reminder of that trademark.

All up to speed? Good. Well one of our main forum goers, STORM!, has spotted the some artwork related to SEGA Racing Classic.

The image has the same logo that the trademark showed, so there’s a good chance this is legit (not to doubt our members - just nice to be sure). [Click image for larger picture, or visit the forums for full sized image]

SEGA isn’t wrong to call it ‘classic’ either. As the image shows all the signs of being classic SEGA:

* Blue Skies - check.
* Developed by AM2 - check.
* Bright, colourful artwork - check
* The Hornet from Daytona USA - check.

In fact the only thing to suggest that this isn’t just the old Daytona USA poster (with a new title) is the inclusion of the RingWide symbol. RingWide being one of SEGA’s newest Arcade machines, running the likes of Border Break.

But it’s going to be interesting to see just what the game has to offer. Will it be a new Arcade machine featuring several classic SEGA racers? Or is it a new/ revamped version of Daytona USA?

The image certainly points more to a Daytona oriented game. I can remember someone telling us that since EA owns the Nascar license, they also own the rights to the Daytona name. I can’t remember if that is true or not, but if it is, then perhaps SEGA Racing Classic is SEGA’s way to get round awkward licensing issues and make a new Daytona game?

Stay tuned for more information as soon as we find it.

Cannot wait, I hope it gets a home console version with all the tracks from 1 and 2 plus some others, maybe from Scud Race.

Shouldn't it be 'Broo, Broo skies'?

Looks like a HD update of Daytona 1, everyone loved the old version, but it needs a bit of an update.

Surely this will either get a full retail release or be on XBL/PSN.

 Guess what!

Confirmed: Sega Racing Classic is the new Daytona

Image

Sega Racing Classic is a revamped version of Sega's smash hit Daytona USA, featuring the original tracks and heart pumping action with all new high definition graphics. The game runs on the Sega Ringwide hardware, with the stunning graphics displayed on a 32" Widescreen LCD.

-32" Hi-Def LCD Widescreen
-1280 x 720 Resolution
-Force Feedback Steering
-Link up to 4 Cabinets
-Eye Catching Cabinet
-New Billboard Leader Display
-Color changing LED Cabinet lights
-Classic Gameplay

Highway Games has a new page up that details the new Sega Racing Classic game and it pretty much confirms everything that we heard about the game being a new Daytona, along with a couple of extra details. The game will run at a resolution of 1280×720p and presumably at 60 fps, using the Ringwide hardware. According to the Highway Games summary, SRC features “original tracks and heart pumping action with all new high definition graphics”. I will be trying to get some more information on this one but where it has both screen_6116flyers and cabinet shots ready for the game, I wonder if we will be seeing it at IAAPA next month. As you can see from the graphics in this post, they are using a cabinet design that departs from their most recent Sega Rally 3 style cabs.

Of course we do expect to hear a lot of Daytona fans clamoring for a console release but I believe that we could expect a long period before such a port would happen, if it happens at all – in fact it has been quite a while since any new Sega arcade release has received a console port which is good for arcade operators (the only games on Lidbergh hardware which have seen console releases are Virtua Fighter 5 and Virtua Tennis 3. You could sort of count Afterburner which got a psuedo-port to the PSP). I don’t think it’s that bad for players either considering the fact that the arcade version would be superior just based upon the controls alone.

Stay tuned for more details on this very soon.

You know that time in your life (it's happened to us all) where you pull a stunning bird only to take her back to your place and find she has a penis?

Well, remember that feeling...
