Retro Games is launching a mini version of the 1982 computer Commodore 64 called the C64 Mini. It will be available in early 2018, with a price point of $70.

The C64 Mini, which is half the size of the original version, will come with 64 preinstalled licensed games, including California Games, Speedball 2: Brutal Deluxe and Paradroid. You can find a more complete list of games on their website. https://thec64.com/games/

It comes with a wired joystick, a charging cable and will connect to your TV via an HDMI port, but you can also use any standard PC USB keyboard to interface with it. The C64 Mini will have a save game capability and filtering options such as CRT, pixel perfect and scanline emulation. You can upgrade your console's firmware via a USB flash drive. Retro Games is also planning a full-sized version of the C64 for late 2018.

This is the bit that I am really interested in! The mini version looks neat and will no doubt be a lot of fun (sixty-four games!) but, for me, I am intrigued by the "full" model. I wonder what benefits that will add?

I’d buy it just for the retro styling on the box.

I've been looking at one of these for a while. Not quite pulled the trigger on it but it looks pretty sweet.

It'll be interesting to see if we get an N64 Mini. The hardware for the NES and SNES mini's are the same, but by all accounts it probably couldn't handle N64 emulation. So they'd need to develop new hardware for it. Then there's the controller, not to mention the licencing issues Nintendo will have. An N64 mini without Goldeneye and the rest of the Rare developed games is far less enticing. That won't matter if it can be hacked, but for those who can't or won't do that it'll be missing a lot of big games.

There's only 21 N64 games available to purchase via VC, but going by the list if they just stuck those 21 games on it I'd be happy with it.

N64 VC Games

Mario 64, both Zeldas, Mario Kart and Paper Mario day 1.

N64 VC Games

Mario 64, both Zeldas, Mario Kart and Paper Mario day 1.

If I had to wager at this point I'd say it'll be 19 from that list with both Zelda games absent. Nintendo are still officially supporting the 3DS so won't want to discourage people from buying the remakes.

If that does end up being the case, though, I'd like to hope that they will partner with some of the developers that have already consented to have their games available on the other Minis (Konami, Square, Namco and Capcom).

ISS, Track and Field, Ridge Racer 64 and Mystical Ninja please.

I'd love to see Rocket Robot on Wheels in there too but I think the developer works exclusively for PlayStation now.

EDIT: sorry for clogging up a C64 thread with N64 talk!

A while ago I would have already pre-ordered this by now and be eagerly awaiting its release. Now, though.... even with it being one of my all-time favourite gaming systems I will probably hold off. Great times, brilliant memories but I suspect I’d only play it for an hour or so before tucking it away.

I'm up for something like this where it's all the best stuff from that generation, which didn't appear on a later machine. So Paradroid would be great but there's no point in having something like Speedball 2...

I really got into computer games with the Amiga so this was a little early for me. An Amiga with 64 of its best games, though? Take my money.

There is only 1 game I want for the Mini, Kikstart 2.

I had a ton of great times on the Amiga too, Jordan. As Cheeky Devlin noted earlier, there is a new version of the Amiga that looks very interesting.

That was a cool game, Xeno, although - for me - I preferred the gameplay of the original Kikstart; it was a fantastic game :) .

The Armiga! Thanks for the heads-up. Always dreamed of buying another Amiga but always questioned how much I would actually use it. Nostalgia pangs are kicking it hard!
