Now just setting up my build area.

Will post live updates on the GRcade discord (can't seem to make an invite link to that atm, should be a link knocking about somewhere)

There is a discord? :fp: :?

strawberry float all of you for not warning me about putting the strawberry floating cooler bracket on wrong and thus orientation it to suck in hot air from the GPU

This is where we find out that it won't fit the other way and I was wrong the whole time. 8-)

Third time's the charm on the CPU cooler! Big thanks to Karl and Andre for talking me back from the cliff edge.

It turns on! Boots to bios. I'm knackered after spending 8 hours on this so will finish the rest tomorrow!

1) Install CPU

3) Mount CPU cooler at wrong orientation so case won't close
4) Swear

6) Thoroughly clean off thermal paste
7) Mount cooler the wrong way round again
8) Cry

Hope this helps! :)

But you said I should do that. :shifty:

At step 7) I mounted the cooler the right way round but had forgotten to strawberry floating screw the brackets that the cooler screws into, into the strawberry floating motherboard! I just rested the brackets down, then screwed the cooler straight in as I was so happy to have done it "right" at last.

Anywho, will be cable managing and getting windows and stuff set up this morning I think.

Thanks everyone so much for all their help up to this point.

Cables have been tidied and Windows is going on!

Mistakes waiting for me this morning - big thanks to bertie for spotting I was under powering my GPU. It amazingly came with 0 I structions for the power, so I took a PCIe cable that had 16 pins in it and hooked that up to my GPU. That is the wrong thing and I should have known the obvious thing is to use 2 of those cables but only half the plugs of each. Duh.

I didn't put 2 screws on my GPU bracket so it was a big saggy, have tightened that up a bit but think the 3080ti is just a saggyboi.

New GPU doesn't fit in my current case... unless I remove the lower front fan. I was on the verge of just buying a new case, but then I thought better of it and maybe this whole situation isn't totally strawberry floated? How bad would it be to just move that one fan somewhere else, like to the top of the case?

Case pics (don't judge):

The two front fans provide airflow into the case, with the one in the back pushing air out.

For reference the case is the Thermaltake S100.

A slightly bigger single intake fan might be another option, I have a big single intake fan in mine (the biggest one Noctua make) but a smaller one might be adequate.

I might just do that, though I can only fit a 140mm fan in the front. I imagine the total amount of air being moved would go down with just 1 140mm rather than 2 120mm. I could go more aggressively into exhaust fans to combat the heat, but I think that would lead to more dust getting into the case via cracks and such?

Uh, scratch that. Those front fans already are 140mm.

You can buy slimline fans. Are Those 15mm thick?

Or are yours 25mm? Looks like a 15mm fan would work?

Maybe? My new GPU is almost the same exact length as my current one at its longest (where those cylindrical "fins" are), but that length covers the entire height of the new card (and it's taller, too).

Fake edit: Yeah, I think a slimline fan would do the trick. Actually getting it all in there will be a headache, but it should work.

Well, it's in...
Looks cleaner than I thought it would! (still not clean)

(Yes, I am aware of the cable tie poking the CPU fan. It's gone now.)

The GPU is resting on the shitty, barely customizable-length support bracket... as well as the new slimline fan! It just barely fits!

Man, getting that beefcake in there was a struggle. Thankfully I didn't have to remove the CPU cooler to do it, but it was a close thing!

Uh... slight input connector clearance issue:

The DP ports should be fine, but I can't get the HDMI cable fully in (the plastic around the connector is pretty thick). Will display port through an HDMI adapter be able to get me 4K 120hz? If yes, then I can just ignore the HDMI port.

Managed to lower the ports a bit by moving the screw to a lower hole. Will this be fine? This is the only way any of the ports can work.
