Sounds great, but in most of the places I read reviews, it talks about a bug with vampirism, or something.

How likely am I to come across this, and if I do will it only happen once- assuming I can use one of the workarounds that have been posted online?

Anyone with experience of this?

Thanks

You can only get it once you sleep and you wake up with the disease. To prevent it you can revert to the earlier save and have some medicine (I cannot remember what one) or pray at a shrine then when you sleep you won't contract polymorphic blahblah. Another work around which I have not tried is changing the language to German before you give the blood grass to the witch when you have contracted the disease and go on an epic quest to find the cure.

Oh man, that sounds complicated.

How likely am I likely to come across this? Is it an essential part of the game, or do you accidently run into it?

Vampirism is by no means essential.

You will only contract it if you are fighting vampires, and you can very easily go the whole game without ever meeting one- they don't appear in the main storyline. Although there are some sub-quests that involve vampire hunting. Don't worry about catching it too much, you can use temples and cure disease potions if you do contract the disease, just be sure to take care of it before it turns into full blown vampirism and you'll be fine. And some of the effects of being a vampire are quite beneficial...

Thanks guys. Looking forward to this - although I'm about 2 years late I guess!

I started about 6 months ago. Awesome game. Basically Fallout 3 with swords.

Best RPG ever in my humble opinion, the world is so beautifully created, it stole hours upon hours of my life

Definately one of the best, you really have to live the world and not play it as a videogame. Fallout 3 is definately more of a videogame, but Oblivion is just so more beautiful and if it were not for the reality destroying oblivion portals I would have loved it even more.

I am so disappointed we won't be getting a sequel on this generation of consoles and upset they have favoured the more gamer friendly Fallout 3. :(

I won't have huge amounts of time to do lots and lots of quests, so I'm hoping I can just wander about and explore quite a bit, seeing as it looks so pretty.

THIS. Stop worrying about Vamps, they aren't common and just enjoy the game!

Do the Arena first. Helps you level up, get weapons and armour early on. Lower difficulty if needed, no shame in that.

YES! By far the best side-quests in the game.
