When I'm using adblocker on Google chrome and browsing on YouTube I now get 'An error occurred please try again later' whenever the video I'm trying to watch has an ad. The error stays there for the duration of the ad and then plays the video perfectly fine.

Has anyone else experienced this and if so found a way around it?

It's not an ideal solution but you could just turn off adblock on youtube, there's quite a few sites now that simply won't work while using ad blockers.

You could just switch to Firefox when using Youtube. I never see any ads with Adblock+ and videos all start instantly.

uBlock Origin for Firefox is the best adblocker. It works really well and it's niche enough that it's never targeted by anti-AdBlock crap.

When thread titles read like Google searches...

Think I might have found a solution to this. Apparently google have started flagging account that use Adblock, so signing out of my google account while watching youtube still blocked the ads. I decided to sign back in and edit my google ad preferences which seems to (for now) done the trick.
