Just seen that James Somerton, the main target of this Youtube Plagiarism video mega essay, posted an "apology" video, that opens with him crying into the camera, alluding that he attempted to take his own life, and then dancing around apologising for what happened by using a load of passive language that implies the plagiarism just happened by mistake and he didn't notice. Already deleted. A response so predictable, you'd think he'd copied it from somewhere else.

Apparently there's serious concerns that James Somerton, the main target of this video, has committed suicide. He's posted something of a suicide note online and no one can seem to get in touch with him.

Most are obviously hoping it's a publicity stunt.

I unfollowed the hbomberguy sub reddit a while back, because ever since the release of that video three months ago, the place has done nothing but obsess over James and every action of his since, as well as drag up any comments from anyone defending him. Must be incredibly shitty to have a huge number of Internet stalkers following you round and criticising all you do.

I preferred that place when it was just Tommy Tallarico jokes.

No matter what YouTube does, the community will always find workarounds.

Yeah, I'd seen this, but can't be bothered to go through the steps at the moment, as I'm away visiting family. Pain in the arse for timing.

You can do it in five minutes whilst taking a dump. I know because... well, yeah.

Takes 10 just for the clean up most days.

Had to do it twice (running the apk patcher, not taking a dump) because the first attempt with the standard patches just installed it with the default youtube name and logo, so I had two identical apps in my phone I couldn't tell apart.

If you open the app info screen the details will have the full name of the app beginning org.revanced.

I don't know where that is, the furthest I got was looking at the apps list in android settings and they both displayed identically, but taking up different amounts of storage space. I just uninstalled then repatched with the "custom branding" patch enabled that gives it the old revanced name and icon like before.

Genuine Q: why bother?

Whilst I know most creators make money from sponsorships rather than ad money surely by blocking commercials you’re depriving them of funds?

With a video medium comes video ads as well which actually fit together. I can 100% understand why you’d block video ads on a text based website because they don’t belong there.

Why look at adverts when you don't have to?
