Well you having said that I recently designed some web page backgrounds in AI. I've used ID to layout pages, an exhibition catalogue and a bunch of posters.

The typography control in ID is massive, the engine is really fast and aligning to grid/guides really helps layout.

There are just better toolsets between the apps based on a mixture of genre/media and intent.

For example, there's not much reason why you couldn't accept a commission for a pamphlet or small catalogue if you bundle that it in with super illustrations.

Getting the commission is another subject, I've never been paid for print design :slol: and haven't looked for paid work there.

I'm really looking forward to getting stuck into AE some more, been looking at a few good online tutorials for AE6 and that combined with Premier Pro 6 is really worth the money for me. Each trailer we do is better than the last one. :) Can't wait until I can learn to do some decent animations with manual keyframes and some cool video visual and sound effects we've paid for :D

Signed up for this a while back, £20 a month or so for EVERY Adobe program out there is such a bargain, previously I only had a legit copy of Flash that set me back £800 or so. I like how you always have the most up to date version.

Right, think I'm gonna do the student deal. I graduate this year so have until 25th June to lock in a £15.88 price for a whole year which is pretty good value. I just need to know, as I have a gooseberry fool computer I want to change soon, that if I get the package now, and put it on said gooseberry fool computer, then in a few months (hopefully) change to a better PC, I can move the license to that PC? If anyone knows that would be great

I got it...now I'm regretting it :slol: I have 2 weeks to cancel I think. I just don't know whether it's worth it! Might just get the old CS6 stand alone package with Student discount as I don't think I will need to upgrade as much as other people in other industries. I figured it out that with my discount for a year for CS it's £190. Then after that I'd just use Illustrator and Photoshop I imagine, which would be around £420 for both for a year. So after what...5 years that's about £2000.

If I get the standalone CS6 that's £300 and I imagine I won't be needed upgrades for a while. It's such a strawberry floating annoying option. Adobe really take the piss.

Bit of a bump, but after my 1st year of CC was up they wanted £47 pm, so you can get around this by creating a new Adobe ID, putting your country down as India and paying in Indian Rupees (your card shouldn't decline when you add your full address in - minus the UK bit as it doesn't seem to actually check that).

The regular price in Indian Rupees is about £28pm (after card fees and fluctuating currency conversions), but it's still a £20pm saving for the full package. If you can blag a qualifying CS3+ product code then you can get that down to £15 for your first year then £27pm after (again, in Indian Rupees). :slol:

Also, you get access to two PC's per account. So two people can use on one PC each (should you want to go half on the price again).

This is great, thanks. Will use it later this year after work have removed my access.

Not sure if I'll keep hold of mine as I may be moving on but I can just use my cs5 master collection. There are some tools included I want to use though.. Including typekit recently was a great addition as I can use the Web fonts for websites and easily get a decent look.

Maybe the rupees thing still works..

Edit: just realised of course I would be a new customer again.

Rupees should still work. Adobe also e-mailed me on my original account about 30 days after I cancelled it offering another year at £27pm. So that may be another option and use the 60 day post-expiry grace period (where the software will still work) to wait out such an e-mail.

The accounts only in my name at work though so they own the subscription, and it was already renewed last March.

I may be able to continue to use the account in some kind of contract deal though.

Otherwise I need my own subscription. One of the benefits I learnt from my mate the other day is you can write off all the VAT in one tax year as an expense rather than as a capital investment over 2 to 3 years (can't remember). That might be one other reason why Adobe made this change.

Being VAT registered is a Ballache though and my income is never great enough to justify that.

I'm not sure whether my mate actually was vat registered. Do you have to be register for vat to claim it back? I thought so, maybe he just didn't mention he was vat registered.
