Buy one of those massive bags of rice for £7-10 and with frozen meat/veg you'll have enough to live on for months for minimal outlay. It'll be fairly dull but you can add stuff to it make it more interesting - there are loads of asian market places round here that sell vegetables and big bags of spices etc for way less than the supermarkets.

this is what i did a lot, saying that living by myself was always dirt cheap for food. i am not really into eating much takeaway so pretty much ate a lot of small meals. Rice, veg and random meat. Pasta based meals with different sauces, chuck in some veg as well. Sometimes though i was so damn lazy i just had jam sandwiches :D

My current wage goes on rent and food. That is all. Then again I'm on an internship so the pay sucks balls. Also I eat like a stoned horse.

My advice on the food front would be a combination of Lidl and Sainsbury's Basics range.

If an omelette and Chilli Con Carne aren't in your repertoire of meal ideas then something has gone wrong somewhere.

Vegetables are insanely cheap now everywhere, so it doesn't really matter where you go.
