I'm going to try cleaning out my hard to press B button, but if I don't manage that, I still feel I want the SG pro pad just for nostalgia and because it was a responsive pad. Even if looks ridiculous.

I also think it's helpful to have basically the same controller layout for everything SNES and up (apart from N64 and to some extent GC). But maybe I'm trying to homogenise stuff too much.

Personally, although I like the firmness and decent amount of vertical travel on the MD buttons, they were always a bit too much to mash for me, and I notice it starts to hurt my thumb nails after a while. Those buttons are so deep. The SG propad doesn't have this problem.

See, I've never liked Nintendo d-pads because it's almost impossible to consistently hit diagonal directions on them but I agree about the buttons on the MD pads being a bit spongy sometimes.

Yeah, I did notice the diagonals are much easier on the dpad playing thunder force.

Just plugged my MD in to see how well it runs.

Sonic 1 is so horrendously slow it's painful. I have no idea how we put up with it back in the 90s. Absolutely awful PAL port.
Sonic 2 feels better, but still doesn't seem as quick as it should be.

I think my Mega CD is borked as it doesn't seem to turn on at all. :( Which is annoying. Might ask my dad to take a look at it and see what he can do.

Try banging it to dislodge dust and cleaning all the contacts.

My md didn't appear to do anything at first as it hadn't been used for literally decades.

Yeah it's not that.

I do vaguely remember turning it on about 10 years ago and there being a vaguely electronic burning smell coming from it. Think some of the capacitors have probably popped or something.

Like I said I'll have my dad have a look. He's an electronic engineer and repairs TV and Broadcast equipment so he should be able to fix anything wrong with it that doesn't involve the actual chips.

Good stuff.

So I just beat Thunder Force's first 4 levels (the ones you can select to play in any order) which is basically the 1st tier of completing the game, and then it gets strawberry floating insanely hard and basically no ordinary person can do it.

Literal fist pump. Absolutely loving this.

The GOAT.

I recommend not watching this if you have epilepsy.

Have you considered picking up a Supergun and some Jamma boards for running some classic arcade titles through the monitor? So many fantastic shmups in the Arcade that console just never got.
Hell a PC running Mame would look great on it.

Oh and a PS2 with Gradius V should be a must.

That game looks insane. Impressive for the NES.

I have the Gradius remake on backwards compatible PS3. I think it can simultaneously output composite signal so I could try that or use one of the 3 ps1s/2s I have lying around. I know there are some decent Playstation and Dreamcast titles as well but I'm not sure where to draw the line for what's suited to the CRT and I'm not a huge fan of the quasi 3D stuff either.
