Remedy sold the rights to the Max Payne franchise a little after Max Payne 1. Max Payne 3 won't be developed at all by Remedy and is owned by Take 2.

I suppsoe it could be quick then since they have the engine work done, hopefully get a PC version this time.

Will they sandbox it up? Rockstar only ever seem to do one sort of game nowadays.

Repetitive, terrible animation, a hugely unlikeable antagonist, boring combat, sub par voice acting... but it had potential. It was a pretty game and the engine is there so as long as it doesn't take 5 years to make, be released and shows up it's age and mechanics with much better titles released at the same time then it could be a great game

Cool story.

I thought the whole point of an antagonist was to be unlikeable?

Eh, i was just a little confused. There isn't really much of an antagonist in AW outside of "teh darkness!111one!"

Massive hyperbole there, but it was a disappointment and didn't live up to the hype. There's potential there for teh sequel to be a great game.

As much as I didn't enjoy parts of Alan Wake, I agree with potential being there. I hope they get rid of the padding, some bits went on far too long.

I'd personally be happy with Alan Wake 1.5. Loved it to bits. Not enough people seem to be making these types of games which is a real shame. Hell, single player games as a whole seem to be a dying breed, which is a genuine shame. I'd maybe like a bit more variety in the enemy types and perhaps a few more open spaces (but not too many, not a huge 'sandbox' fan), but everything else I'd love to continue in the same vein.

Remedy Entertainment has confirmed to Eurogamer that "yes, more [Alan] Wake is coming!" But the Finnish developer said the new game won't be Alan Wake 2.

"Fans of the franchise will be excited to learn that yes, more Wake is coming! But to be absolutely certain to avoid confusion, this next Wake instalment will not be Alan Wake 2. And neither will it be DLC," Remedy's head of franchise development Oskari Hakkinen told Eurogamer.

"The rest we're saving for our official announcement when we'll actually show you."

Hakkinen revealed that "a slice" of the Remedy team has been working on this new game for "the last months".

"It's something that'll definitely give more to the Wake fans out there, but just as importantly, this instalment will also give an opportunity for players who aren't familiar with the franchise to finally jump on board," he added.

"We can't wait to show you more, bear with us. Release dates, platforms and pricing are unconfirmed as of yet, but Fall 2011 is probably a good guess."

Could the next Alan Wake game be for Kinect?

Hakkinen was responding to a news story yesterday based on an artist's LinkedIn profile mentioning the project Alan Wake 2.

"This has come in a little unexpected as we weren't expecting to be talking about this just yet," shrugged Hakkinen, referring to the leak. "On the flip side, it's great to see that there is interest out there - it really would seem Alan Wake is very close to the hearts of the fans out there, and to ours too.

"It is of course a shame that this news leaked before our official announcements went out which will include the visuals and information to support it."

Hakkinen stopped short of confirming an E3 reveal for the new game, but there are few platforms more prominent to announce a game than at the huge June show.

Colour me intrigued. Some kind of prequel explaining where the darkness came from would be nice, but I hope they don't decide to can the whole franchise if this one isn't as successful as they thought it was going to be. I still want to know what happens next :x

The darkness is some creepy ancient eldritch gooseberry fool that lives at the bottom of a spooky lake.

Alan Wake wrote:Stephen King once wrote, ‘Nightmares exist outside of logic, and there’s little fun to be had in explanations; they’re antithetical to the poetry of fear’.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Presumably any kind of prequel wouldn't follow Alan at all, so we can disregard his King quote and get on with the important question of who wrote who into existence?

Whatever happens, I hope they make it more survival horror and less third-person shooter. And that they get rid of the "OH HEY THERE'S A BAD GUY OVER HEEEERE!" bullet time camera :fp:

Repetitive, perhaps, but fun while it lasted.
