It's not as simple as it should be. I feel the controls for panning and zooming in and out are sluggish and unintuitive. You get a feel for it but it's not smooth.

The map button still doesn't work most of the time.

Why can't you be better?

Flash him and aim for weakspot.
Pistol headshots or shotguns.
Run and gun as much as possible.
There's loads of loot in transition and phase 2.

I've done 3 'Boss Battles' as Saga and each one has been pretty poor. The combat just isn't very good. They got away with it in Control because the fights were so chaotic and it was more run and gun with explosions thrown in. Here where it's more considered and precise, the mechanics just don't hold up very well and it's not particularly satisfying.

The chapter where the plot of Alan Wake's first game is retold in singing and dancing is bloody amusing yet a work of genius. Mixing game graphics and video footage. Sam Lake seems to have fun with it.

Still think Alan's World is a lot weaker than Saga's.

Just finished a couple of chapters as Alan and I’m really loving it, but am I doing it wrong because the end of chapter song is the same every time? I’ve completed a good few chapters and it’s always the Poe track.

I'm starting to bounce off this a little. It puts up too many road blocks between you and just being able to sit back and enjoy it. From the clunky controls, to the disjointed story, the wonky combat, the constant interruptions to gameplay. It's just feeling like pretty hard work.

Wife treated me to this for my Birthday so played it all weekend. It's soooo good, in fact I'm enjoying it so much I think I'm going to go back to AW1 after I'm done. Visually it's jaw dropping, not one scene or thing looks ropey/janky, texture work is exceptional, all at a rock solid 60fps too.

Story line is good, well, Saga's makes more sense, Alan Wake's is all over the place but I love that you can play both pretty much in what ever order you want or ignore most of one side completely. Very scary in parts though, proper creepy vibes.

I don't like some of the framing, I think I've put a fuse in a circuit board about 8 times now to get the power back on...

Sam Lake does like to indulge himself doesn’t he. You get the sense he’s more into the world and story than anyone playing the game. Gameplay is feeling rather repetitive after 10-15 hours, some new mechanics wouldn’t go amiss.

Finished Alan Wake 2. A wonderful game. The combat clicked halfway but still need a lot of improvements. The story is sublime. Loved the nursery rhymes and some of the cult stash puzzles.

The mind place/plot board is a very good idea, but my god it's so clumbersome, especially when a case got a lot of threads.

There are some moments where I ran out of batteries and end up with a roadblock where you have to shine focus your torch on weak points to get past.

Started playing the original Alan Wake (have completed it on XBox 360) and I like the combat system here. Batteries is aplenty, fast changing of batteries, torch can be recharged on its own if left alone. Health can be replenished when in a safe haven. Also the last minute dodging seems to be a lot easier. Now I don't know the real reason why they ditched those (to make the game tougher? Seems a bit unnecessary.) Also the combat system seem to be more smoother than the slugfest you get in Alan Wake 2.

At least they've improved the stamina. Alan no longer kneel over after a minute's running.

Also I've forgotten how much an arsehole Alan Wake is.

Oh no I'm playing through the original at the moment thinking "I really hope they've improved the combat in the new one" :slol:

Well it's a lot more sluggish in AW2 cos the enemies love to rush-teleport into your face as soon as you're lining up your crosshair.

I seem to pop off enemies a lot more easier than I do in AW2.

Also I found that you can tap the reload button to well, reload faster. I don't think this feature is used in the sequel. It's a lifesaver.

I did not enjoy those last hours

Running through dark areas you’ve already been through (without a map)

The ‘investigation’ that went on and on and then profiling.

Did a 5 minute run around for platinium.
Overall enjoyed it lots but still baffled by incredibly high scores it got.

Think ‘creatives’ might be having a little bit of a circle tug over it

I replayed the remastered original a week before starting this and I don't understand how the overall combat and its visual fluency was better 13 years ago?!

It strikes me as a game that just had really poor playtesting.

I'm in the final run now and the game has loaded me into a battle where I have no health and no inventory space so I have to seriously faff around to survive the first 30 seconds. It's just really poor structuring. The flashlight has just been just absolute strawberry floating gobshite for me the entire game. I have no idea whether or not there's a trick to get it to properly hit an enemy but to me it feels entirely random and wank.
