I thought this a few months back until I checked! It feels like a gamepass game, eh?

Isn't that just shorthand for a game that looks interesting but you wouldn't want to spend money on?

Ooh not in this context! I would spend (some) money on this, I just genuinely felt like Alan Wake 2 just felt like it was or should be a Gamepass launch game. Maybe because the original was so closely tied to Xbox.

Most of Remedy's games have been, so I expect this will eventually. I'm surprised they haven't put the remaster of the first game on there, to drum up interest.

It's not been in stock at any point I've checked over the last few weeks.

Will Alan Wake 2 have post-launch support?

Yes! We will be supporting Alan Wake 2 post-launch. A New Game+ mode called The Final Draft is coming as well as a Photo mode. Release dates to be determined.

Two paid expansions

Both of our expansions tell new stories and offer exciting gameplay within Alan Wake 2.

Expansion 1 – Night Springs

Visions and dreams. Fiction is written and coming true. Fiction collapses and remains just words on a page. These are those stories… in Night Springs.
Play as several familiar characters from the world of Alan Wake and experience the unexplainable in multiple self-contained episodes of Night Springs, a fictional tv-show set in the world of Alan Wake.

Expansion 2 – The Lake House

The Lake House is a mysterious facility situated on the shores of Cauldron Lake set up by an independent government organization to conduct secret research… until something goes wrong.
Explore the Lake House and embark on two separate adventures as the realities of Saga Anderson and Alan Wake collide again.

"Two Paid expansions"

Weren't people saying those expansions will be free?

I think I got confused with this post:

rinks wrote:There’s going to be multiple significant DLC, but it will be free!

Confirmation came via Remedy Entertainment's creative director Sam Lake, who was at EGX this weekend, talking about the return of Alan Wake.

These free DLC expansions come on top of the two post-launch content drops Remedy detailed earlier this year, hinting there'll be plenty to do post-end game after we jump into Wake's new nightmare later this month on 27th October.

"We do have free DLCs drops coming, and they too are pretty significant," Lake told the crowd at EGX.

"I'm expecting us to be going more into detail pretty soon after the game is out, but all of that will be free for everyone who gets the game."

I’ll go first then…

Played up until the end of the first Chapter, about an hour if your going through at a normal pace, two if your role playing and exploring. I think now I’m on of those dickheads who find 30fps unplayable, I can’t believe it :fp: I wasn’t sure between Quality or Performance but the latter just feels a lot better to me and I find fine graphical differences hard to notice. It looks good but nothing I’d particularly write home about, it has a grounded earthy quality so nothing particularly pops.

Seems to have some fun investigation mechanics but it quickly started to feel like fancy walking simulator, press X and put the puzzle piece in place to move forward. I have a feeling this is just temporary getting used to mechanics though and from the next chapter I’ll be given more agency and there will be more gameplay. It looks to be an very impressive size world with everything fully realised, this could be a standout feature.

Story is sort of intriguing but not really latched onto it yet, the end of the chapter was fun and the first time I felt uncomfortable with all the lights off. One thing that stands out as worth mentioning already is that the Remedy world building looks to be strawberry floating on point as ever. Also the incidental music is absolutely banging, well worth pausing to listen to.

I really enjoyed chapter 1, think I'm going to stop there and complete American Nightmare and the Alan Wake Control DLC before I continue though.

5600x, RTX3070 I'm averaging about 80fps at medium settings on quality DLSS at 1440p. Occasional dips to 60. Game does look nice though.

Once you've played at high frame rates, it's impossible to go back. I will go for higher frame rates over visual fidelity every single time.

Yeah, once you get used to 60 fps, 30 fps becomes unbearable in some games.

I thought Control's combat did an exceptional job of making you feel basically like a superhero, it was so great to play around with, bar a few frustrating enemies and bosses. With them saying they were inspired by RE2, I had pretty high hopes for the combat in this. So far impressions are not great, admittedly I've not done much with it but the first boss was terrible.

I wish their was an option to make your inventory and pickups bigger. Everything feels too zoomed out so I have to go to the menu and squint to see what I actually just collected was.

I wanted to play the Alan wake dlc for control in preparation for this

But guess what. You can't play it till you get to mission 7.

And you can't transfers saves from the PS4 version. So I guess I'll just watch a YouTube summary

Gotta say, it's pretty reasonably priced for a digital only game though. £50 on PSN compared to £70 for Spiderman

Supposedly not doing a physical release has allowed them to release it at a lower price digitally. According to Remedy anyway.

I missed a tutorial? Anyone remember what the control input is for quick turn?

A bit further in now - back to Saga.

Achievements are this are wierd. You complete a boss encounter - pops a trophy. 25 seconds later chapter ends - pops a trophy.

Control stick down twice in quick succession. There's a tutorial menu option with all the stuff though.

Having spent today doing that and the other Control DLC, it's completely unnecessary.

Gotta say I'm really struggling to get on board with the controls and combat in this. They're so strawberry floating clunky. I'm dying so much and I barely feel like I'm doing anything wrong.

Edit: Ok having gone through a combat ‘heavy’ section I’m starting to feel the flow a bit more, but it’s definitely still a weak element.

The restriction they put on it?
