Since I can't put in a score of -486 in (it may disrupt the averages slightly ;-) ), could I trouble you for a proper score OnlyShallow?

I don't have a proper score yet. Not listened to it all the way through. As I'm sure you are aware, having a house full of little kids isn't the most conducive of atmospheres for listening to music. The only time I can listen to music in relative peace is in the car on my commute (Bose stereo and ipod connectivity FTW!). So if someone could provide me with a suitable link, I will get right on with the scoring!

Defence Mechanism - Invasion of the Robot Brains from Planet Zero - 7/10

I struggled picking a score for this one. At first I thought it was tremendous, a real breath of fresh air. Coming across like some kind of futuristic Nine Inch Nails soundalikes having swallowed a bunch of comic books, I really thought this was ace. But it was very one-note and eventually a little samey. The album is also about five tracks too long, which is a shame. Still, I think it deserves a decent score for being something a bit different, and in glad I listened to it. :-)

Next to pick is The Crimson Clown.

Alright, here's my choice. Not sure how well known they are, hopefully most you won't be too familiar with them as the best thing I've found doing this is discovering totally new music.

Some of you will know this band as 'the Mass Effect credits guys'. That was how I first heard of them. Turns out they're actually pretty amazing, having released two albums worth of music and one EP, all of which are stellar. It was pretty difficult to decide which one to choose for this. Their second album is much more accessible and straightforward. The first is more abstract and experimental but I think it has that special something so I've decided to go with that.

Interesting, never heard of them. I'm on holiday this week so probably won't be able to listen to it for a few days. Will get everything updated soon too, promise!

Ok, an update from me...

I can't score Defence Mechanism as I don't have a download for it.

I have just downloaded Faunt. I know nothing at all about this band. I have had a very quick listen to bits and bobs of it.

First impressions? Very interesting. Going by the 20 seconds of snippets I listened to, this sounds like it might be the first album that I may actually like. I look forward to listening to it properly.

Actually, I have had this on in the car today. I've enjoyed it. I'm not going to score it yet though, I'm going to listen to it again first. But the best album so far (well apart from the one I chose, obviously ;) )

So just back from my holidays, thought I'd check out all the activity in the music club.....

...oh. Seriously guys, if no-one is going to be bothered I'm just going to have to kill it. There's still time to make something of this thread, but it needs some input from you if it's going to work. I've updated the OP to here and am listening to the Faunts album now. Sounds really good actually.

Sorry, I've listened to it once but I need a few more goes before giving a score. Sounds good so far by the way :)

Defence Mechanism - Invasion of the Robot Brains from Planet Zero - 8/10

Loved this. It sounds exactly like I thought it would just from looking at the album art work, if that makes sense.

Faunts - High Expectations / Low Results - 7/10

Considered turning it off after the first few tracks, it just didn't grip me at first. Glad I stuck with it though, it's just so chilled and relaxing, 'Gone with the Day' especially.

The Longcut - A Call And Response
The Young Knives - Voices Of Animals And Men
Defence Mechanism - Invasion Of The Robot Brains From Planet Zero

Can't find these albums.

Also.

Thee Oh Sees - Help - While it has decent and quite catchy music, I don't like the vocals very much at all. So, I'm going to give it a 5 outta 10

A perfect Circle - Thirthteenth Step - Haven't listened to A Perfect Circle for years, I think it was when the first album came out. Didn't think much of them then. I may have to go back and listen to it though, as surprisingly I rather enjoyed this album and am unsure of what to give it. I think I'll go with 7 outta 10.

Faunts - High Expectations/Low Results

Unfortunately a rather fitting title. Absolutely loved the ME ending tune, so I was expecting good things from this. Sadly it's far too... easy-listening for my liking, with most songs being almost instantly forgettable. It sounds very Brian Eno in places while at the same time never really being as good as Brian Eno's stuff.

5/10

Decent background music if you're working, but not terribly exciting.

EDIT: Onto The Young Knives now. I've already got Weekends and Bleakdays, so hopefully the rest of the album is as good as that one song.

Kent - Röd - 4/10 not my thing tbh, as I said I liked Hjärta, and there was some stuff on there that was semi-decent.

Just noticed I don't appear to have actually graded any of the other albums in this thread :fp:

I remember listening to at least the Futureheads album (5/10), and I've just finished listening to The Young Knives.

It's actually quite good. I like the more thrash-y indie bands, so I prefer this to the Futureheads one. Think Here Comes the Rumour Mill is my favourite song on there  Probably one of the few albums I've listened to in one of these that I'll keep hold of. GG Custard.

8/10

cheers Frank. I'll look on there for the other 2 albums I need.

This High Expectations / Low Results is rather mellow, so much so it's making me tired. It's seems more of a listen to in the background while doing something else... Basically what Frank said.
