Elbow's best album. I love it more and more every day. Every track is brilliant. Genuinely. Every track. It's hard to think of many albums where I wouldn't want to cut at least one song, but this is one.

Probably the worst track is One Day Like This because it's a bit obvious and bombastic and too long, but it's still great, and you get the lovely delicate Friend Of Ours afterwards which doesn't outstay its welcome by a single second, so it would be ungrateful to complain really. If I absolutely had to pick a favourite it would probably be Some Riot. BUT I DON'T.

:D

The UK bonus track We're Away is a bit naff, but I'm not sure that counts. Otherwise, I'd agree with that. Mirrorball or Weather To Fly would be my favourite. No, Friends Of Ours. No, Grounds For Divorce. Bugger.

Oh yeah. No, I wasn't counting that one. It's not great, but yeah, it's only a bonus.

I've been listening to a lot of Justice lately. They're like a darker Daft Punk. Awesome.

When you've been a fan of them for the other 9 years it's the biggest disappointment they could have ever possibly released.

Well, to be honest, this was the first thrice album I bought, so I had no real idea of what they sounded like. I've since bought TAITA and Vhiessu, and both are terrific albums, But there's this undefined something I just love about TAI.

@pedro - Yeah, Deja Entendu was the fist album of theirs I bought, and its amazing. Play crack the sky is probably in my top 10 songs ever. The devil and god is brilliant, although it took me ages to get into it, I love it now.

@MCN o/ Queen just brings back memories of when I was 6 and my dad would put Don't stop me now on.

Have you listened to the version of the album they recorded with the BBC concert orchestra?

Weather To Fly is, hyperbole aside, breathtakingly wonderful. One Day Like This is the only one that comes worse off (aside from Grounds for Divorce, although it's Cheshire-Cat-grin-inducing bombast towards the end can get a bit daft after repeated listens) because there wasn't much scope to change it.

It's hard to pick and choose tracks when the album is so solid and complete. The added orchestra just offers a new perspective and, in most places, it's as if the album was written with an orchestra in mind since there's hardly a moment where it's out of place. Starlings, Mirrorball, Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver, Friends of Ours. It fits together perfectly.

Definitely worth a listen if you love The Seldom Seen Kid in its studio form. And even more worth a purchase if you want to hear it all in 5.1 surround.

It's easy to see that they've grown and matured in their music throughout the years, TAITA doesn't even sound a thing like Illusion of Safety or Identity Crisis. But it was still a great progression. TAI was just way too far removed from their roots for me.

I tend to get typically blanked whenever I mention this, but for all intents and purposes this is one of my favourite French House albums ever made. Easily up there with Homework, Motorbass and Tempovision, anyway.

Image
Been quite a few imitations in recent years but nothing really stands out as much as J Dilla's first and final album.

Image
So many anthems to choose from on this one. 'If I Ever Feel Better' should be reason enough to own this album though...

Interesting choices there.

Anyway, some albums I really love. Not necessarily favourites, but ones that came to mind when I read the new thread title.
