This is essentially what covenant is, and that's why it's not that interesting (because it's retreading old ground).

I don't get the predators dislike, I really like that film.

I haven't seen it but it sounds like they've tried to make Alien with added lore, pretension and wankery which is why it hasn't been well received.

I quite like Predators too. An enjoyable 6 or 7 out of 10.

A reboot of sorts would do gang busters no doubt. Whether Blomkamp could pull it off or not that remains to be seen but there is no denying there was hype there.

TBH, I wished Prometheus was its own thing with only snippets of alien lore to tie it into the universe. I watched it again the other night, maybe I was blinded a tad by the stunning visuals but it didn't seem that bad this time round. It's frustrating really, the concepts are sound, interesting even, it's that the execution was poorly planned out. Ridley and his team are artists of the highest order in cinema but graphics can't carry them alone.

I really fancy Katherine Waterston.

It is both an (unnecessary) expansion of the lore and just the same alien plot over again. I don't think the "pretentious" parts are what are badly received, as those themes all tie in to Fassbender's character(s) and he improves every scene he is in. He plays it well.
