Finished.

Great game overall, audio in particular, though the end of the game felt a bit cheap when the final chapter just went "lol, all the Aliens!" and had them dropping out of vents right in front of me, only to then drop another the instant I used the flamer to drive the previous one off.

A few bits of backtracking purely for the sake of backtracking were fairly annoying but they tended to be few and far between thankfully.

In an Alien mood right now so this has come to my attention again.

Do you reckon it still holds up now on PS4?
And the DLC, is it worth it?

1) Absofuckinglutely. It still looks stunning, some dodgy character models aside and the gameplay, although occasionally frustrating is great. I mean, it's a genuinely great game.
2) No idea, but apparently the Crew Expendable one is pretty good.

Well, you know, gooseberry fool frame rate, built with last gen in mind etc

But I'm going in with Taf's glowing recommendation.

As long as you're running the correct version of DosBox you'll be fine.

I have yet to get beyond the area near the start where the one person shoots at you and runs for help. Scary games just aren't my thing. :( It's beautiful, and they really nailed the feel, but hell, I just can't do scary.

I shame my people.

It's a great game but be aware that you should make manual saves pretty often as unless they've patched it there is a game breaking glitch where the next level fails to load.

I played through it on PS4 on release and that never happened with me.

It doesn't always happen it's kind of random but I got it and a few other people I know got it too.

It happens when you finish mission 15 and move on to mission 16. You end up in the transit hub with no mission objectives. If you hadn't made a manual save before beating mission 15 either you'd only have an auto save in the transit hub and remain unable to progress in the game or you'd need to replay mission 15 in it's entirety.

You can read more about it by Googling Alien Isolation mission 15 bug.

Boom.

The gameplay is a bit luck based sometimes but tension just keeps ramping up and ramping up all the way through. The bit in the detachable lab was strawberry floating amazing, evoking the ending of the film incredibly well.

I think as an example of great design, pure survival horror, how to do a franchise IP correctly (and with huge respect to the IP) CA nailed it absolutely and, for me, the game stands as a best-in-class; a shining example in a sea of mediocrity. This is one of the few games that will never leave my PS4's HDD - I like to keep excellence close by, to remind me just how good things can be when developers really try. I just hope CA might consider working on another Alien game - they are clearly the right devs for the IP.

What more do you think they could do with the license? Would you want an Aliens style sequel or more survival horror?

A more intelligent AI alien would be good and for the larger areas, hate that he magically wanders areas you have to be, I understand why but it'd be nice to have a few breaks apart from the big one in middle third.

Why not both? Have two player characters. Ripley, who is more stealth focused and is small enough to crawl through vents and isn't really very good at combat. Then a partner character who's perhaps ex-military, can't enter vents and isn't very stealthy, but has extensive combat training and weapon experience. You could go for either two different, though similar, campaigns, ala Resident Evil 1/2, or a buddy system ala Resident Evil Code Veronica.

Urgh no. There's nothing worse than a game that tries to be all things to all people. Anyway, the brilliance of Aliens the film was its transplanting of the Vietnam War genre into a fresh new context. If anything, games have ripped off that film so much that any game based on it would simply be doing the same thing FPSs have done for generations. We've enough gung-ho shooters as it is.

I'd deffo love another Isolation type game, although I have a feeling this game is going to all we're getting.

One of the worst Idea's I've seen for a game. :dread:

Isolation is a classic, I hold it up along the likes of Bioshock, Half-Life 2 and Dishonored as an FPS experience like no other.

It was a great game marred by it over staying it's welcome. It went on too long and some of the back tracking sections were a chore.
