Probably had the most 'enjoyable' time on this game last night. After the lab section being ejected off the station with the alien in it I was able to freely move around (level 12 I think?). Now the Joes have all gone batshitmental! I can cope with them! Not because they're not scary, it's because I can crack on with the game without having to pissass around jumping in and out of lockers every two seconds....

How far am I away from the end?

Just around the half way mark. I love the pacing of the section your in, makes a change and you really appreciate it.

I'm at that bit, does it mean I'm free to move around the rest of the areas while the alien is away?

Is this a true horror game? I love Alien, but have always been a big ole sucker for anything horror related in a videogame.

How did you find the film? Scary? The game pretty much makes you feel (at times) like you're starring in the film. There are times when the tension is unbarable. That moment when you just about manage to reach a save point, the relief pours out of you! Then there's cheap, gooseberry fool shock moments and frustrations. To me the game ebs and flows....

See that sounds like something I'd like. The film is manageable for me, it's tense but not scary. Something like Outlast and The Ring scare the gooseberry fool out of me just with their tone.

Reckon I might put this on the Christmas list and give it a go.

I'm still at flame thrower bit, and yeah, its not enjoyable anymore, I know it will be once I get passed locking down all the stuff but its just so frustrating at times and i get so tense that I give it one go and then need to watch TV to calm down after.

Ive gotten to Server Farm and I think i was at end, I had to use air purifying to clear air on the way, I had like 75 flame thrower fuel and there was a door that needed unjamming, but the Alien was about, I went out to fire him and he ran THROUGH my flames and killed me... :x

Thats happened to me a few times. Tho i didnt mind it as it keeps you on your toes and means you cant 100% rely on the flamethrower

The only time that happened to me was when we were both in vents. Sometimes he'd charge me when I was using the flamethrower and I'd lose some health.

It's odd, for a game about Alien I'm enjoying it more when it's not around so you get time to actually take in the atmosphere of the game. The thing's a pain in the ass....

Can't believe I haven't got this game. I preordered the Nostromo edition from SimplyGames but the game never turned up. I had to wait until the 17th 'til they'd accept it as having been lost in the post. I then had to fill out a form, scan it and then return it to them. I was busy and away on work, so I didn't do that until last weekend. In the form they asked if I wanted a new copy sent out or a refund. I said I wanted a second copy ('cause I wanted to play the damn game!). They then emailed to say I'd been refunded. I thought 'the strawberry float, I asked for a refund!'. They emailed back to say I couldn't get a re-dispatch 'cause it's out of stock.

strawberry float.

An interesting critical review of AI from Adrian Chmielarz (a developer on The Vanishing of Ethan Carter). I think he makes some interesting observations regarding player agency and some seriously odd design decisions on the part of Creative Assembly...

I don't think I ever had less than about 200 units of fuel for the flamethrower. The game practically throws fuel at you when you need it!

But yeah, it needs to be used as a last resort rather than a crutch. It makes the Alien a lot more manageable as a result, but get complacent and it'll still tear you apart.

Hated that level. You can use a computer to set up an environmental kill but it's a one shot deal. I ran away when I could and used pipebombs/molotvs when I didn't have a choice.
