Got myself a pirated copy on PC as there was no way in hell I was paying good money for this.

That said, I've played the first three missions and a small part of the fourth and so far it's actually not all that bad. Certainly not as bad as a lot of people have made out.

It's definitely got a lot of work that could still be done to it. The AI of both the Aliens and your fellow Marines is just horrendous. I mean atrociously bad. The graphics are, as Cal has nicely pointed out, far inferior of 2010s AVP game. It also doesn't give me the fear that I expected. When I played all the previous AVP games I always felt really stressed out by them, but this just hasn't had that yet.

On the plus side the shooting (Aliens at least) is fairly satisfying and as a massive fan of the movie it is cool to get to some of the locations and have a poke about.

It's just a shame that it could have been so much more. As it is all it seems to be is an at best average FPS with a dream license attached.

I'd certainly be pissed off if I'd paid full price for it but it's definitely one I'd consider picking up when it's dirt cheap in a Steam sale.

I watched the Eurogamer playthrough earlier, which I highly recommend if you're on the edge of paying money for this. The guy spends an hour and a half on it so get to see a fair chunk, and it's telling that he gets far more animated talking about the start of Dead Space than he does playing this game.

As he comments, the game actually starts quite well, with an atmospheric opening full of subtle nods to the movies, but after that it just seems to flatline. There are a few bugs in the video and the AI is incredibly basic but the main problem is that it's all just so dull!

To the developer(s) credit the music and sound effects are spot on, but that's all the good I took from the video. I was weirdly tempted to buy this before watching the video out of sheer curiosity, but I'm not going to waste my time now.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but here you go. Uploader says the mission being played is 'One Bullet', and the difficulty is 'Hardened'.

If it's true that Gearbox outsourced most of the production to some other studio, you'd have to ask why? Why would any game studio (particularly one that's made decent FPSs before) not want to make an Aliens game? Surely it's a dream license to have?

I just don't get it.

Because they're idiots. It's why crap games like this keep making their way onto the market place. I bet it's number in the charts before the weeks out.

Of course Maf will no doubt excuse me of trolling simply because he's enjoying this junk, but I truly am gob smacked that such an awful product is getting so much undeserved attention.

Extensive patch has been released on all platforms apparently, should make things a lot less glitchy.

This looks like an Aliens game from the "Duke Nukem Forever" people, if you know what I mean.

Apparently, Gearbox developed this in association with Nerve Software and TimeGate Studios. Also, Demiurge Studios for the WiiU version. So I wonder how much of the game has been outsourced to those studios.

I also wonder how the flying strawberry float some people reviewed this game.

EMGNow or something gave it 9/10.
Forbes gave it 8/10.

Am I missing something here? Cause from what I've seen, this game is nowhere near 8/10.

As I said in the screenshot thread, I'm only getting this because it's Aliens and I'm a huge fan. Any other name and I'd be demanding a refund on this shite.

Aliens can climb on the ceiling, on the walls. It's all driven by sophisticated Artificial Intelligence.

That line had me laughing.

'Audacity' has nothing to with it, Gandalf. They are both good games. Both are games I've spent far more time playing (and enjoying playing) than I ever will with Colonial Marines. But you go right ahead with your sneery snarkisms. Vampire Rain still stands as a perfectly acceptable (and entirely unforgiving) stealth-'em-up, while RE:ORC is just a fun, albeit non-canon, arcade zombie shooter - a ridiculous game made all the more enjoyable by its well-designed 14 multi-tiered levels, some serious challenge (especially some of the boss fights) and a robust set of weapon/character upgrades.

Colonial Marines, as we should all know by now, is a complete disaster. How on earth Gearbox - who were gifted gaming's most scared, most frequently riffed-on IP - dropped this ball is a tale we shall probably never know, but their sloppy, careless attitude to the Alien/s IP is undeniable to anyone with even a smidgen of common sense. After this title, will it ever be possible to drag the Alien/s IP any lower through the mud and slime of lying, talentless developers?
