So is all the negativity towards the game based on the graphics not being as good as hoped or is there more to it?

Lets see:

Awful graphics
Awful Script
Awful attempts at retcons
Awful AI
Awful shooting mans sections
Awful amount of bugs (the glitch kind, not the alien kind)

Did i get everything?

Outsourced by an awful dev?

Just been blasting through this, all the charges levelled against it are true. However, I've still been enjoying myself. And I'd still rather play this over the Call of Duty single player campaigns.

I can't get on with the Alien campaign in AvP Classic at all. My head just cannot handle all the screen flipping all over the place and I find it very easy to get lost.

I'm not very good at the predator stuff either, but I find it's relatively easy to go through that with just the speargun. :slol:

This is scandalous. It's like the devs ported the game on the left to the PS2.

Considering that the only people who've ever passed comment on it are you and Mafro, both PARAGONS of sanity and excellent posting, I'm not too bothered.

Played a few hours of 360 version up to LV-426

It's basically unfinished, which is amazing considering how long it has been in development. No AA and poor texturing make it look really rough, reminds me of Blacksite Area 51, if you've played that then it's about that quality graphics wise. Good points are the framerate which seems decent about 40fps on average with some tearing but it's smooth, gunplay is quite satisfying but both the friendly and enemy AI are terrible and the humans are actually more dangerous than the Aliens so far :fp:

Some nice fan service so far but overall it's just so disappointing because there is the odd glimpse of a really good game under the crap, on occassion it actually even looks nice (dark moody scenes). It's not Turning Point/DNF bad but when you look at the likes of Killzone 3 and Halo IV this looks at least a generation behind.

You didn't even do a like for like comparison though, just a poor attempt to bash on stalker. If you wanted like for like, should have mentioned something like Crysis 2, it got some textures and that's it. gooseberry fool games don't get modded up, especially gooseberry fool games that are half baked as Colonial Marines.

Saw it mentioned somewhere, might have been on Digital Foundry, that the framerate on the 360 is unlocked and surprisingly high in places, whereas the PS3 version is locked at 30fps.

I agree with Rik, and I'm about 3 missions from the end. It's relatively entertaining, but it could have been so much more.

http://www.polygon.com/2013/2/15/399272 ... eing-wiped

Some Aliens: Colonial Marines players are having their save games wiped and progress reset, according to reports on the Gearbox Software forums.

The problem appears to be confined to the Xbox 360 version of the game. Players are reporting that the shooter doesn't create save games on the console's hard drive. Instead, it only appears to save to the console's cache; when the cache is wiped, the save game — along with a player's progress in single-player and multiplayer — goes with it. Numerous Colonial Marines players are corroborating the findings and complaining about the problem in at least three different threads on the forums.

No Gearbox support rep has responded to this specific issue yet. But when asked earlier this week about the preponderance of bugs throughout the campaign in general, community manager Chris Faylor said, "We are paying close attention to community feedback (both here and via other channels) and will have more updates in the future."

Colonial Marines publisher Sega is aware of the problem, although the reports the company has received — from "a small number of users" — seem to indicate that the issue is tied to installing the game to the Xbox 360 hard drive.

"If you experience any issues with your save game data, please try uninstalling the game from your HDD and playing from disc while we investigate what may be causing this issue," says Sega.

When reached for comment, a Gearbox representative told Polygon, "If the support [forums] don't have this one indexed yet then it's still likely with QA getting a repro [reproduction of the issue] as the game just came out."

When they use those demo/final version comparisons they are using the console version right? As bad as it looks it doesn't look as bad as it does in those vids :shifty:

The console versions look worse than the PC one, with the 360 one looking the worst for a change. The PC version still looks fugly though, and as people have shown even AVP 2010 looks better.

All this Aliens talk finally got me playing Dead Space 2, and it's so much more accomplished than this appears to be. I'd love to see what Visceral could do with the Aliens license.
