DC on the other hand has started so strong. I'm currently reading Batman, Superman, Flash, Green Arrow, Action Comics and Detective Comics. Might try some more like Teen Titans.

Doom Patrol's coming soon as well. :datass:

Looking forward to that.

Cheeky Devlin wrote:I've not read anything post-Secret Wars yet. So it sucks to hear that it's not been especially good so far.

Ah well, plenty of older stuff to go through.

My pull list is bloody tiny compared to what it was a year ago. I'm down to just Black Panther, Scarlet Witch (a better Dr Strange book than Dr Strange), Squadron Supreme, Nighthawk and Ultimates (the best Avengers book). I was reading All-New Inhumans and Uncanny Inhumans but got a bit bored of them, the former is getting cancelled in a few issues and I'm just not arsed about the latter any more. Marvel are really suffering from all their big writers leave within the space of a few years. It's good that they have given some of their mid-tier writers a chance on the bigger titles like Al Ewing on New Avengers and Ultimates, and Cullen Bunn and Jeff Lemire on X-Men, but writers like Jonathan Hickman and Rick Remender were on a completely other level. Giving Brian strawberry floating Bendis of all people another big line-wide crossover event so soon after Secret Wars was an insane decision.

CuriousOyster wrote:Only read the main Civil War II #0 - #2 so far, idea behind its quite cool but so far can't help but always think back to Civil War I. Not 100% invested in Captain Marvel either.

Amadeus Cho is Hulk
Steve has only become Cap again
Miles Morales is basically proper Spidey just now
Thor is a gooseberry fool female support character
Iron Man is a 15 year old girl

:slol: That is mental. Only good one is Miles. Hulk as a youngster with a mohawk :|

I think it's been almost two years now that female Thor became a thing and they still haven't bothered to explain why actual Thor became "unworthy" Wouldn't surprise me if they haven't thought of a good reason yet and just wanted to change character. I like Miles Morales a lot and really think he should just be the main Spider-Man now with Peter Parker as a supporting character in a mentor role. That wee Hulk can strawberry float off though :dread: And don't even get me started on kid Nova.

If they are so desperate to have younger versions of established characters then I really don't see why they can't just relaunch them as Young Avengers again and have them in that.

Miles is the main Spider-Man in New York now and Parker is his mentor but Parker is also the main Marvel adult hero.

Have you read ASM recently? Parker is basically a likeable Tony Stark and Spider-Man is Iron Man, it's really really good and very different in tone to the rest of the Marvel books.

Basically Miles is in Parker's old role and Parker is now the main man.

I wish Slott could write Miles as when ever he appears in ASM he is great, when I read him elsewhere he is just dull.

I've not read Peter Parker Spider-Man in years. Last time I read that series was the first arc of Superior Spider-Man.

It's changed a lot. Basically he's a billionaire supplying Nick Fury with gear and making the world a better place as both Peter Parker and Spider-Man. He's also backed up by Prowler and Mockingbird.

Miles is now the 616 New York level hero Parker used to be and Parker is only doing his thing on a global scale because his home is in Miles' hands.

The new Amazing Spider-Man is basically taking the whole with great power comes great responsibility to a whole new level.

He also has no time to go all emo over girls.

That does sound really good, ive got the whole of Spider Island from two runs ago just started :slol: just going to skip the rest in between to Dying Wish - which I read at the time after not following for a while. Superior was so good.

Also have the last volume #1 - # 20.1 which ends in 'Spiral' sitting to read and then the first two of this latest run too. Is it up to about #18? Used to buy ASM (and comics in general) religiously but never in town anymore so lose track/interest.

It seems absolutely crazy to me to keep changing these characters just to check certain diversity boxes. It would be far better to create a new generation of titles.

To me it comes across as slightly racist with the lack of thought that seems to go into diversifying their line up. Its literally "ok let's turn Thor into a woman and make iron man a black woman".

The current management of Marvel Comic sounds like it would make a cracking sitcom.

Superior was Ace, this is the aftermath of that basically. It's cool to think that Parker is now able to do so much more for the world with his power due to Octavious.

Slott has put in a little FU to Marvel by having Parker Industries HQ located in the Baxter Building with a memorial for the Fantastic Four.

The last few issues he has crossed over with Iron Man and that story was not so good, but otherwise Parker is not really involved with the rest of the Marvel universe, he works with Nick Fury Jr, Prowler and Mockingbird with occasional appearances from Johnny Storm, otherwise I think Slott is left to his own devices with ASM whilst Miles takes Parker's place in terms of interacting with the rest of the Marvel Universe.

Also Miguel works for Parker Industries and Parker has made him a new kick ass suit.

They should have handled the other changes the way the Spider books have done. Sure have a teenager female as Iron Man, but have Stark out there in his own books doing something different. Same with Thor, Cap and everyone else who has been replaced.

At the moment there are very few adult Marvel heroes kicking about, it's mostly about the younger generation so why not have them in their own stories and have the older incarnations off on different stories dealing with different problems. I don't think the people at the top in Marvel realise that a lot of their readership are people who grew up with these characters, it's why I really appreciate Peter Parker's current role in this universe, he is probably my age now and his stories are now much bigger in scope than they ever were whilst he was confined to New York.

Sam Cap is actually pretty awesome and is a lot more interesting than Steve Rogers ( I say that as a huge Steve Rogers fan ).

How successful have the new generation titles been out of interest?

I would imagine the rebooting that happens later in the year suggests that the new books are not working out so hot.

There's nothing racist about it whatsoever

I hope it's basically an Iron Man armour version of his usual Dr Doom armour. I don't think he's been seen in that since the end of Secret Wars. As far as I'm aware he's just been wearing a suit and tie so far.

Bendis is like Brexit. Nobody really wants it but nobody can stop it.

Bendis has his strengths but judging from past experience, writing Doom isn't one of them.

That big Image summer sale has started on Comixology. Picked up some volumes of Deadly Class to catch up from where I stopped, as well as the first volume of Tokyo Ghost and a few more issues of Paper Girls.

Has anyone else read Wonder Woman Earth One? I read it over the weekend and thought it was dreck. What's actually there is probably alright but it felt like there was a good twenty or thirty pages just randomly missing so the story has no sort of rhythm to it and the characters all feel underdeveloped.

Compared with Azzarellos New 52 stuff it just seems even worse.

I liked it but as you say it ended far too soon. There wasn't a third act.
