Pavement it's your turn to come back now.

Where's Jimmy when you need him?

http://pitchfork.com/news/49681-trent-reznor-announces-the-return-of-nine-inch-nails-extensive-touring-for-2013-and-2014/

NOTE FROM TRENT:
Nine Inch Nails are touring this year.
I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked - which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.
The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014.
Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon.

EDIT:

This is happening

http://pitchfork.com/news/49730-nine-inch-nails-new-album-finished-out-this-year-on-columbia-records/

Trent Reznor's revived incarnation of Nine Inch Nails have signed to Columbia Records and will release a new album later this year.
Reznor's other project, How to Destroy Angels, is also signed to Columbia.
In a press release, Reznor said, "I've been less than honest about what I've really been up to lately. For the last year I've been secretly working non-stop with Atticus Ross and Alan Moulder on a new, full-length Nine Inch Nails record, which I am happy to say is finished and frankly strawberry floating great. This is the real impetus and motivation behind the decision to assemble a new band and tour again. My forays into film, HTDA and other projects really stimulated me creatively and I decided to focus that energy on taking Nine Inch Nails to a new place. Here we go!”
The revived band is heading out on tour starting this summer. As reported, the touring NIN lineup will include Reznor, Adrian Belew of King Crimson, and Josh Eustis of Telefon Tel Aviv, as well as previous NIN collaborators Robin Finck, Alessandro Cortini, and Ilan Rubin. UPDATE: Belew is not part of the touring band. He just contributed to the album.

this is great news, one of the bands I've not seen live that I'm desperate to see.

I'd be willing to travel to almost any part of the UK to see them. London would be ideal, if we don't get Dublin.

New NIN material this Thursday. 'Came Back Haunted'.

Came Back Haunted", a new track from Nine Inch Nails, will debut this week. According to Radio.com, it will debut on U.S. radio stations on Thursday, June 6 at 11:30am Pacific time. KROQ Music Director Lisa Worden told Radio.com, that it "harkens back to early Nine Inch Nails." She said, "I think it’s in line with the first two albums. It’s got a great beat, it’s not the experimental material Trent’s done in the last five years... I wouldn’t say that it’s dance-y, but it does have a great beat, a groove. Trent [Reznor] really brought it with this song"

The new NIN album is due on Columbia Records later this year.

Why bother retiring when you're only going to unretire a couple of years later? Pointless act.

I wasn't aware they had "retired". Didn't they release Ghosts not long ago?

gooseberry fool, really? Still, there are plenty of bands that go longer than five years without an album without having to retire and unretire again.

Either way, I'm looking forward to more NIN stuff.

I thought they only 'retired' from live performances? Okay, they still had to unretire (and calling that last tour the Wave Goodbye tour seems a bit foolish now  ) but I'm sure Trent never drew a line under more NIN material anyway.

I think it’s in line with the first two albums,” Worden continues. “It’s got a great beat, it’s not the experimental material Trent’s done in the last five years.” Worden indicated the song didn’t strike her as angry. Rather the beat is what made an impression. “I wouldn’t say that it’s dance-y, but it does have a great beat, a groove. Trent [Reznor] really brought it with this song. It’s going to sound amazing to new fans and old. It’s just cool

I have to say, not a massive fan of the film soundtracks outside of the films they were in. If he goes back to a Pretty Hate Machine sort of thing that would be swell.

I think I should rename this thread now.

I like it.

Seems to me to be a mixture of the sounds from Year Zero and The Fragile.
