Vault-Tec did instigate the conditions for the war to start but they screwed up the chosen time, so it all happened on the weekend before it was supposed to or something. Corporate miscommunication. Which kind of fits the reckless nature of the company (and also how her daughter was still outside when it all happened.)

There are some theories Moldaver was captured by Vault-Tec and frozen due to her unique scientific knowledge of atomic power, even though she was a danger to them.

Yeah that would work as well.

I'm fully prepared for it to never be definitively confirmed who fired first. In fact I think I'd prefer that. Keep it a mystery.
Ultimately it's not that important and just knowing VT were potentially part of it is enough.

As has been mentioned, just because Vault-Tec suggested using the bombs themselves, doesn't confirm they actually did use them first.

Very, very excited for season 2.

Me too but almost entirely for more Cooper/Ghoul backstory and hunting for his family.

Great for people who haven't played the games to enjoy but I didn't get a huge amount out of it-it needed more stuff like the Bill episode (which was easily the high point) where it went in its' own direction. Also, Ellie was terribly miscast and I will die on that hill.

Although I've never played the games, going by people's reactions who have, Fallout seems to have hit that sweet spot of telling its own story while remaining faithful to the games, which is not an easy thing to pull off.

The Last of Us is much more directly an adaptation, but Fallout still feels like a remix of game plots to me. Leaving the vault you grew up in to find your father is the whole premise of Fallout 3, while coming out of cryo is the premise of Fallout 4 (as is the Brotherhood arrival in Filly scene). Factional conflicts over a power source, with the key lost in transit by a courier is New Vegas.

The funniest bit is the huge strawberry floating bag the squire hauls around. I feel very seen.

Which is essentially how we all use the companions when playing the games

The water chip breaking was the plot to the original Fallout.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

Same here.

Never played the games, but yeah gave this a go and have gave up after ep 3. Just couldn't get into it all; didn't like the whole tone / vibe which everyone seems to say is the best thing about it!

Just finished the first season and caught up on this thread.

First off, I realise that the posts were probably weeks/months apart, but the first 4 or 5 pages of this thread seem to only consist of Jawa constantly telling everyone he refuses to pay for Prime.

I've never really played the games (think I played a little bit of 3), so I have no idea about the story or lore of this world.

Which may be the issue, I spent a lot of this series just wondering how the strawberry float Walton Goggins survived for 200 years, while they have explained it, it was winding me up for way too many episodes.

Walton Goggins is great in this. I'll always like him for having such a ridiculous name, but he's a fantastically charismatic actor.

The other cast were ok, nobody really blew me away.

And the show as a whole? I'm with OR, it's ok. Not bad, not amazing. I'll probably watch S2, but I'm not going to be counting down the days. Maybe I'd have enjoyed it more if I'd ever gotten into the games.

They left so much unanswered on that character so I'm guessing he will be the main focus of S2.

I had the same trajectory as you, to be fair. Nice that they've pulled a decent show out the bag.
