Amazon appears to be preparing to launch new Kindles. Several listings spotted on the German version of Amazon show a new "Kindle Voyage" e-reader with a 6-inch high-resolution display (300 ppi) and a release date of November 4th. An image of the Kindle Voyage has been unearthed from a user manual by allesebook, and the specifications suggest it will have a new page press sensor to turn pages by pressing lightly on the bezel, alongside "intelligent front lighting."

While Amazon has quickly removed the German listings, it appears the new Kindle Voyage will ship in 3G and Wi-Fi versions. Amazon Japan (Google cache) lists the new e-readers as 8mm in thickness and 186g in weight, meaning the Voyage will be a lot thinner and lighter than the Paperwhite. It’s not clear from the listings whether the Kindle Voyage will replace the Paperwhite or simply launch as a high-end e-reader in the range. Amazon lists the Kindle Voyage at 189 euro, and the 3G version at 249 euro, both are an increase on the 109 euro price of the Kindle Paperwhite and the 169 euro 3G version.

We’ve reached out to Amazon to comment on the Kindle Voyage, and we’ll update you accordingly.

About time! I've been telling my Mum to hold out for ages now and she was beginning to get impatient.

I still use an old Kindle Keyboard 3G. Still does the job! The Voyages do look really swish though. Maybe one day!

I always think it is odd they bring out so many of them, its not a tablet where a faster processor makes a lot of difference, the only really useful advancments have been the light and touch above that it is all kind of unneccasery

I'm after a new e-reader at some point. I don't really like the Kindles though, I've always used Sony readers, but they've thrown in the towel.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I love my Kindle, but see no reason to "upgrade" to a newer model.

Same. I've got a first-gen Paperwhite and can see me keeping that for a good few years yet.

I've got an old kindle with a keyboard.....

I don't use it thinking it's terrible. It still does the job of displaying text for me to read.

I'd even argue that touch is inferior to the 'next page' buttons on older models. Better for typing if you don't have the keyboard model I suppose, and not having a keyboard makes it smaller.

Happy with my 3G Keyboard model at any rate.

I prefer tapping the screen. I also like that on the PW versions the screen doesn't have to do a full refresh on each page turn, I saw someone using an earlier one on the train and the go to black then the page just looks bloody irritating.

I'm fine with my old Kindle but I'm not keen on getting a Fire. I'd much rather Google would announce a new Nexus tablet.

Won a Fire HD (2013) at work and got given it today. Wanted a tablet for a while but just not sure a Fire is what I'm after.

Also reckon Google will bring out a new Nexus soon. Should I just flog this and put the money towards that?

After years of resisting I went and purchased one for myself, Not the Voyager, I don't really care that it's 2 mm less than the paper white. I am kind of tempted by the kindle unlimited simply due to the fact I would need to read one book a month to equal the costs a physical book would cost me.

yeah probably, if you like android then go for the most recent nexus 7 or the nexus 10 which you can get for just over 200 quid. I got one two months ago and they are still super fast and the resolution is amazing.

The problem with these thinner models is that it makes modifying them for disabled users a lot more difficult.

For example: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Kindle+3+Remote+Page+Turn+Switch+Replacement/5749

I'd quite like to try something like that but I don't know anyone who be able to do the modifications.
