Amazon Prime (and other sneaky sales tricks)

The whole Amazon Prime thing happened to me a couple of years ago. I'd been paying for a year, maybe more, before I found out. :dread:

My fault for forgetting and hardly ever being asked to check my bank statements.

Signed up again for free delivery over Christmas. 8-)

My brother got caught out by this. I'm not sure he really cared that he did.

I was searching for Warriors games on PS4 and I spotted that Samurai Warriors 4 II is in stock... but only for Prime members. Oh, man. I hope this doesn't become a thing i.e. you have to pay Amazon a subscription to be allowed to buy stuff :fp:

Id gladly subscribe to Prime but, living in Ireland, its just not worth it, if they start putting things behind the Prime wall when its not actually viable for me to subscribe to Prime then its very disappointing. Their delivery times have already gone to gooseberry fool, I was waiting over 2 weeks for stuff recently when they would get it to me in a couple of days before. I put this down to attracting far more Prime subscribers in the UK so anyone not paying for delivery gets totally strawberry floated over.

Wouldn't they lose a lot of business doing this though? There's always plenty of other places to buy stuff online usually.

All it would do is just send customers away from the site. Seems a bit surprising to me.

The question is, does anywhere else sell it? If so, an utterly stupid thing to do as they just risk losing sales.

Other places sell the "Prime exclusive" stuff, those other places just might charge a little more or not offer next day delivery, whilst Amazon prime means "GET IT NOW!!!!!!!11111"

Amazon is continuing to move into making some videogames only available to Prime customers. I was searching for The Elder Scrolls Online and...

It's hard to tell just how many titles they're doing this with as I don't *think* there is a way to search for these cases. They've certainly got some balls to get customers to pay an annual fee so that they can buy stuff from them!

It is annoying that I have to constantly be on my guard whenever I check something out with them. You could argue that anyone who doesn't read things properly deserves what they get but the fact still remains that they are trying to mislead people into doing something they do not want to do.

Yep. They seem to make the button they want you to push be in bold or larger, and the "skip" button much smaller and something you have to look for.

The idea of subscribing to a shop is strawberry floating ridiculous.

There used to be a video games shop which you had to be a member of to buy things (similar to Costco and the other big discounters) it was about 10-20 pounds a year I think and you got a 'free gift' on subscribing and more gifts the more you spent (you got to chose from a range of items).

It wasn't bad but pretty sure it went out of business some time ago. Struggling to remember the name but this was like 8 years ago+ (my free gift was Time Crisis on the original PlayStation).

I understand the principle sure but it's like the very definition of an upper class division of access to goods, imagine having to subscribe to Waitrose and having a key card for entry. :dread:
