Amazon Prime (and other sneaky sales tricks)

It's not a yearly contract is it? Do they really refund automatically if you've not used it?

I'll just cancel now and then see what happens and then contact them.

Edit: ah sweet I was able to do "End Now" within the app and get refunded the payment in 3 days. That's pretty excellent.

There's yearly and monthly options available, but yearly is cheaper I think.

Yep, this is one of the reasons I like Amazon because the customer service (real or from the site) is pretty good. If I'm going to buy something I'm not sure about I'd rather pay a bit extra and get it from Amazon to avoid the hassle of trying to return to other online vendors. Having said that, I bought some wireless headphones for my daughter for Christmas (shipped by Amazon but sold by someone else) and when I went through the returns, they wanted to charge £3.99 (i.e deduct that from my refund). If you choose "ordered by mistake" or "no longer wanted" they will try to charge, choose "incompatible" as the reason and there is no charge.

strawberry float! Wish I'd known that yesterday, sent a load of stuff back with 'no longer wanted' and paid the charge for each box.

Well, you know for next time. Very impressed with Amazon's return. I dropped it off at a collection point about 1pm yesterday and received an e-mail a few hours later to say my refund was being processed and I should receive it in 5 days.

Amazon are great for returns. I wanted to return a gift and thought it would be a right pain but nope, they just sent DPD to come a collect it from my house the next day and now I've got £30 to play with.

I'm thinking of signing up for amazon prime, but I honestly don't use it enough to justify it, but the amount I've wasted on paying for one day deliveries recently >_>

Bear in mind is not a catch all free delivery service. Many items still require you to pay for postage even if you're a prime member, which I found out when buying presents.

Yeah it depends on who the seller is, if it amazon you get it free and some sellers you get free expedited delivery it all depends.

I have an Amazon locker next to my local supermarket so i tend to use that to help avoid p&p

Only if it's marketplace sellers that don't use Amazon to store and deliver there stuff. I usually never bother ordering from those since the dispatch and delivery estimates are never accurate.

Really? If you change your delivery address to an Amazon locker there is no delivery charge? Do they have a tube network between their warehouse and all the lockers or some kind of Star Trek teleporter setup? If not, I can't see why this would avoid a delivery charge.

I have cancelled my Prime membership. Had it for just over two years and probably spent a tonne of money on crap that I only bought because I'd already paid for the free delivery.

I never watch the streaming service, and the music app did my head in, so here we are. That's a notional £80 that I can put in my future Nintendo Switch fund.

Got something coming from Amazon today which is getting delivered to the post office round the corner from my work. What stuff do you need to collect from somewhere like that? I'd assume it's some forms of ID and the order number?

I just never use marketplace sellers. I always look at the listings and its either some shitty Chinese knock off instead of the real thing or it will take 6 months to arrive on top of a massive delivery charge.

Happy to pay the couple of pence extra to buy from an Amazon fulfilled supplier and get my prime delivery.

Yeah I try to avoid marketplace people it just isn't worth it.

I would watch it a hell of a lot more if they let me use my bloody Chromecast! We dont watch anything live and the Chromecast is used for all TV content and stuff so their service is not used much, as it is the only device I have to watch on my TV is the Wii U and I can't be arsed to swap inputs and things and sometimes I want to watch on one of the other TVs.

Yeah, it definitely improved a lot in the past 18 months or so, but I still never used it: for some reason, Netflix is the only streaming service that can extract half-decent performance from my broadband. Everything else stutters and buffers. Netflix is witchcraft.
