What is it About? |

When Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) is released from prison, he meets the mysterious Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) and a storm begins to brew.

Little does Shadow know, this storm will change the course of his entire life. Left adrift by the recent, tragic death of his wife, Laura (Emily Browning), and suddenly hired as Mr. Wednesday’s bodyguard, Shadow finds himself in the centre of a world that he struggles to understand. It’s a hidden world where magic is real, where the Old Gods fear both irrelevance and the growing power of the New Gods, like Technology and Media. Mr. Wednesday seeks to build a coalition of Old Gods to defend their existence in this new America, and reclaim some of the influence that they’ve lost.

I've seen a few of you watching this on here so why not a thread?

Finished the 3rd episode the other day... erm, this show is a bit different isn't it  As stunning as the first episode was I wasn't really feeling it. It wasn't until the second ep where they took a moment to breath & slow things that I really started to invest in it. But wow, this show really isn't accessible to a mainstream audience. I thought Legion was out there but at the same time the characters were easy to like. This, this is something else!

Some of the slow-mo stuff feels a tad pretentious but it's one of these shows/stories that you have no idea where it's heading next and it's all the better for it. Really looking forward to the 4th

Quoting myself from the chat room thread.

Rex Kramer wrote:Anyone else watching American Gods? I've just watched the beginning of ep 3 and it's pretty strawberry floating good. Almost makes me want to be religious. The series as a whole is shaping up quite nicely, not too sure about Hollyoaks fella but the rest are top notch (particularly Stormare who is always brilliant). My only complaint is the constant need to drop in Bilquis scenes, I don't remember them being in the book quite that often. And like Hannibal, it looks incredible.

To be honest, I'm not completely sold on this series so far - it looks nice but the story isn't winning me over yet. I haven't read the book so I don't know what's ahead, but I'm interested to see where it goes. Just seems a bit random at the moment, and I'm not too fussed on the main character.

I'm almost at the end of the second episode and keep having "what the strawberry float?!" moments  - I'll stick with it and see where we end up. It's kinda Fringe levels of weird plus Lost levels of random but more 18+...

Watched the first two episodes and wish it would give a bit more indication of the plot. I'm guessing it's kind of a war pitching old God's against new God's.

Absolutely loving this. Read the book years ago, so having a bit of knowledge about the premise is handy, but not essential. Where I think it really excels is all the little bits of history and ideology thrown throughout that for me make it a really engaging experience due to having an interest in the story of immigration, how beliefs works, why people believes, history itself and so on and so forth.

The third episode opening scene was amazing, loved the idea of stories and mythologies that can take on a form of belief if it captures the persons imagination.[quote="Floex"]I've seen a few of you watching this on here so why not a thread?

That's been the highlight of the series so far for me, just brilliant.

I'm really enjoying this so far, its a little bit 'out there' with some of its concepts and has had several wtf moments but it is holding my interest as I want to see where the story goes next.

ep3's opening scene was indeed brilliant.

I watched the first three episodes in one sitting last weekend. Love the first two episodes and the opening scene to the third was stunning, but the rest of that episode confused the strawberry float out of me. It probably didn't help that I was tired. Might have to watch that one again. Beautiful opening credits sequence, too.

Ian McShane is strawberry floating amazing.

Preacher, Vikings, Sneaky Pete, Into the Badlands and Mr Robot are also worth watching.

I started watching Sneaky Pete as well. Really good first three episodes. Bryan Cranston plays an excellent bad guy.

Episode 4 was fantastic, great storytelling back to the earlier episodes. It was so well written too, Lauren is such a complex character that had me going 'what a bitch!' to 'Yeah, I can understand her empathy'. Great actor too. Loving this now, so much so that I've gone and ordered the book.
