Not sure if I've seen this mentioned anywhere but it sounds like there are some more Zelda Amiibos planned which haven't been confirmed yet.

Sort of Breath of the Wild spoilers - There are costumes for Skyward Sword Link and Fierce Deity Link in the guide for BotW which say they unlock via Amiibo, however none of the current Amiibo unlock them so it sounds like Majoras Mask and Skyward Sword amiibo could be on the way in the near future.

Bayonetta and Cloud amiibos still aren't out. Surely they're waiting for super Smash Bros Deluxe to release them :shifty:

I'd forgotten that they were on the way! The Bayonetta one was spoken of ages ago. Having not jumped aboard the Switch train, I guess that'll mean I'll be off the amiibo train, too. I like them but it still feels like they haven't been utilised as well as they might. I love some of the designs but, to be honest, my nephews' Skylanders figures felt more fun to use.

I simply don't have any interest in Amiibos whatsoever...

I just see them as a toy, which don't really add anything to games.

Also, I'm probably a bit too old to have them standing around (and this is coming from a collector)!! :toot:

Saying that, I do have those Amiibos which came in a boxset with a game (simply because I love those big games boxes) - Splatoon, Mario Maker, Twilight Princess, Captain Toad, Yoshi's Story... :toot: :fp:

[Looks over shoulder towards shelf]
[Sees unboxed amiibo figures]
[Aged slightly nearer 50 than 40]

My nephews are just about young enough to think that their uncle is pretty cool for having amiibo. Another few years and they'll probs put me in the "weirdo" category  .

So do I, Maf... but there are odd rumours that they may not come to UK / Europe. The USA Stories packaging features an amiibo logo, but the Euro one doesn't. We need to hope that the Euro packaging shot was just a draft.

So it looks like these came up for pre-order on Amazon some time this evening. And they've instantly sold out, obvs. I sometimes wonder if Nintendo is world number one at trolling...

Edit: Nintendo currently has five things (the SNES mini and four amiibo) in the top six videgame bestseller list at Amazon. None are available to buy, though :fp: .

Nintendo Life has written up a great article on amiibo... it pretty much ties in with how I feel about them at the moment.

I still think there is so much exciting potential in them but, for me, in terms of functionality they've never got near the fun of using a Skylanders figure. Add in the fact that you often cannot easily buy them anyway and you can see why sales have dropped so far from their peak. Nintendo really has to act quickly if they want to keep the brand in a good light.

I read that article and definitely agree with some of the points they're making, they're mostly just physical DLC now which feels like a step backwards from the 'training your Amiibo' functionality of the original Smash Bros ones. I do like how they can be used across multiple games though, I can train a character in Smash, get item drops in Breath of the Wild and costumes in Mario Kart all with a single Amiibo.

I would absolutely love for Nintendo to make a Switch game completely based around Amiibo, something similar to Disney Infinity where the Amiibo can play across different Nintendo worlds. Gameplay would only need to be simple but it could be brilliant.

I have to admit though that despite this, I'm thoroughly hooked on buying them, mostly just for the figurine. Have ended up with all the Zelda, Animal Crossing and Smash Bros sets, majority of the Splatoon ones and a couple of Kirby/Mario series ones too. The poor stock control doesn't make it easy though, I've got most at retail or less (only paid over the odds for the Ocarina Link Amiibo) but I've had to be really on the ball with pre-ordering and I think most people buying them now are in a position whether they either feel like they must pre-order them as otherwise they either miss out completely or end up paying scalper prices on places like eBay. It's seeing a rise in people using nfc apps, or people selling self-made Amiibo cards on Etsy which can't be good for Nintendo's own business and it devalues the Amiibo brand even further.

Im amazed we didnt see a new Nintendoland for Switch focused entirely on this concept, it seems like such a no brainer but then Nintendo ignore many things like that.

Absolutely, seems like such an obvious concept but Nintendo always seem oblivious to those!

Have your Amiibo come to life in the game, unlock in game items or levels and store some kind of skill profile on the Amiibo and youd have a game that shows off everything Amiibo can do in one package. They would have licensing issues for the 3rd party Amiibo so they wouldnt be able to include every single Amiibo figure as a playable character in the game but thats a minor issue. It could even be extended to act as a hub for all Nintendo games, buying Mario Kart unlocks a karting mini game, Smash unlocks the fighting mini game, Zelda unlocks a four swords dungeon, theres so much they could do with the concept.

It is incredible that we haven't seen something like this. They kinda tried it with the Animal Crossing amiibo Festival game... but, by most accounts, that was very poor. I would be very happy to see a Skylanders-type adventure for the Switch, one where you can actually actually play as the amiibo figurine rather than unlocking Ultra Hard mode or whatever.
