A lot of games do that, the APK can only be so big and I think they charge for extra files so people have a tendency to host it themselves and pull it on first launch.

I think it's because Nintendo want the user setup to be completed before downloading the bulk of the data; the initial download is tiny. On iOS I still don't think the servers are on yet. Just as well as my tablet is charging up  .

EDIT: Or perhaps Errkal's reasoning is the better technical answer :) .

Yeah, I know they do, and it winds me right up. :x

Ooo I loved AC on the GC, but that was the only time I ever played it. It being on phone might be perfect time to pick it up again. Though this in app download seems to be awfully slow

I’ve played the opening twenty minutes or so of Pocket Camp. Initial impression... I like it!

You can “make friends” in game and my details are:

If other folk are playing and want to post their details, I’ll collate them and list them in the new dedicated Pocket Camp thread that I’ll make this evening :toot: .

I know a lot of people were disappointed with Pocket Camp, but I really hope there's a Switch version in the works. And I really hope the dialogue / translation is as good as in the GC original.

So... after leaving the - in my view - rather disappointing Pocket Camp behind, I took a break from the world of AC.

But now it's back. As shared in the "Currently playing" thread, this weekend I got back into Animal Crossing New Leaf on 3DS. I'll post it here, too, as some of you may be due a five-year present if you log back into the game...

Man, it's incredible just how packed the game is. Yesterday I realised that I'd never actually played the in-game Wii U or New 3DS consoles and so I played the "Island Escape" game on the U. It's simple but great to have it inside the main game! I will try the 3DS game later - I think it's a match 3 game or something.

The (free) Welcome Amiibo additions are cool, too - it's great summoning other characters via amiibo (figurines or cards) and visiting the van camp to meet them. Oh, and - dang it! - I missed the Bug-Off tournament... grr!

Also - and I dunno if any of you guys have checked this out yet? - but yesterday when I loaded my game, Isabelle advised me that it has been five years since I became mayor! :o . This ties up, as the game launched back in 2013. The town members gathered together and presented me with a clock  . It was a great surprise!

I've just seen that New Leaf is coming to the Nintendo Selects range, so pretty tempted to pick it up.

Yeah, NL was briefly made available in the Selects range before; but only for a short while before the NL: Welcome amiibo game was released. If the style of gameplay floats your boat then the upcoming Selects version is an absolute bargain.

Just in case anyone out there hasn't played NL for a while, the "Welcome amiibo" update is free to download.

With it coming to the selects range I'm tempted to pick up another copy so I can have a new town on the go without deleting my first one. New Leaf is such a peaceful game to play, but after a few years on the same town you do run out of daily tasks to complete, still yet to finish the museum! So maybe I should do that first....

Can't wait for the inevitable Switch game anyway :)

Unfortunate that a Switch version isn't coming this year [though there's still time for an announcement I doubt they'd want to launch it against Smash Bros.], but there's always next. This is the perfect summer game, after all [even though a game about a running a camp site - a summer activity - launched in the winter].

My first taste of Animal Crossing was with Wild World, and spent massive amounts of hours in the town. Though I did get Why The Hell Is The Name Longer For Europe When The US Name Was Fine, I didn't play it all that much and dropped off pretty quick, feeling the series was better suited to a handheld, or maybe felt it was just a console Wild World [pretty sure I've used those words to describe it somewhere before]. New Leaf was great to play, and again I spent hours on it. It expanded the options available in the series, and is my second most played 3DS game [Mario Kart being the first, with roughly a hundred hours between the two].

I've often found myself thinking about starting a new town, but removing all that progress and all those memories is too much. There's also the fact this town is based on one of my now published works, which makes things more personal for me.

As for the Switch game, more control of where things are placed is needed. I'm not talking about designing the whole town, but the placement of the works projects felt awkward as there was no sure-fire way to properly position them. Allowing for actual paths rather than having to place designs down would also be welcome, along with positioning where villagers move in.

If I'm getting a presentation in my honour, I'd better get on New Leaf.

I got my fiancee a cart of new leaf about 4 months ago so have been playing it loads with her, I found helping her and competing with her a little has given the game a whole new lease of life for me.

What does the welcome amiibo stuff add? I'm really not interested in getting any amiibo figures if they're a requirement.

The Welcome amiibo expansion adds a new Camp Site area. Characters arrive in their camper vans at random and you can buy items from them. If you have amiibo (figures or cards) then you can invite specific characters to the site.

It's totally optional, though - there is more than enough to keep you occupied in the main game!

I thought that if it was announced at E3 then it'd be out next spring, although I can still see that being the case.

Exactly what Iv'e been saying to myself for ages now. The placement of public works should conform to a grid-based system whereby it doesn't matter so much how close it is to the plaza/houses etc. Being able to dictate where villagers can move in is a necessity at this point - perhaps by far the most effective QoL improvement they can make.

Also didn't know about the 5 year anniversary gift, so maybe I'll check in to New Leaf after 2 or more years away.

me and my fiancee always talk about how nice a garden area would be at the side of your house or something, you get all these tables and chairs that would look really nice outside and yet you end up using them indoors or ignoring them.
