I’m stuck in the centre ground on this. I do like it; it’s way better than the vast majority of mobile games that I’ve played. But, yeah, it is AC Lite. In these first few days post launch I’ve played for, I think, around two hours a day ( :o ... :toot: ) but I don’t know for how long my addiction will remain at that level.

I am thinking about returning to AC New Leaf but I will miss doing the Camp stuff like visiting other GRcadians’ places and giving kudos.

I know I'm more of a lurker than a regular on GRCade, despite having been around since the old board, but my ID is: 05593224177. I can be trusted to help with access to the quarry!

I’ve played this game quite a bit in the week since it launched. Man, am I conflicted.

Nintendo has done a good job with bringing the feel of AC to a mobile platform. It looks terrific and there is a fair amount to do. I particularly like the online aspects; it’s nice being able to make friends and visit their camps.

But... it’s not quite right. Whilst being fun, you quickly discover that the gameplay loop circles itself pretty fast. Perhaps understandably, content wise this is very much AC Lite. I find myself in rather a rush to find X item and give it to Y so that you can get Z... and repeat until time runs out or you pay for tokens. It’s just not as engrossing as, say, New Leaf. Worse, the characters feel like not-quite-as-good versions of themselves. Initially all seems well but then you notice how they all start to say the same things, regardless of their supposed different personalities. It all looks the same but, when you dig a little below the surface, it feels a bit empty.

I wondered if perhaps I was donning rose-tinted glasses about the older titles and so I dug out New Leaf to give it a go. Almost immediately it felt like there were way more possibilities. Sure, the graphics aren’t as good but the gameplay has far more depth and personality. Perhaps I am being harsh on Pocket Camp and I know it is designed as a mobile phone title. However, I can’t shake the feeling that this is a weaker version of a great game.

Tl;dr It’s fun but basic... I think my time with it was a cool experience but I’d rather re-discover New Leaf.

It gets into a repetitive loop pretty quickly, and with the limited space you have in your campsite, it feels like you spend an awful lot of time creating furniture for demanding animals, only for you to immediately put it away and never use it again.

Played it loads over the first three days, but now I feel no desire to go back to it.

I've only been playing it for 10 minutes each day since release as I have other mobile chore games that I have to manage, so the boredom hasn't hit me yet, but I know it's coming. I'll have no qualms over deleting it once I've had my fill though, mobile games are so disposable.

I'm still addicted as hell, level 24 now. I think it being my first AC game means I'm not feeling the downgrade.

Also I love things that centre around building things on a micro level
