I like Porco Rosso but I think it's less representative of Ghibli as a whole.

I’d tell them to watch beauty and the beast or Aladdin

When it comes to Disney, Aladdin is definitely a classic, but i'm also pretty fond of Tangled & Moana.

My tier list of Ghibli films are:

Best
Spirited Away
Princess Mononoke
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind (I'll include it even though it's not a Ghibli film)

OK but not amazing
My Neighbor Totoro
Ponyo
Pom Poko

Ones I didn't get on with
Porco Rosso
Castle in the Sky
Howl's Moving Castle

Outside of Ghibli, I really enjoyed "Your Name", I'm not ashamed to admit it gets me emotional every time. I enjoyed "Weathering with You" but not as much as "Your Name".

My two favourite stop motion films are "Coraline" and "Kubo and the Two Strings".

I love Transformers: The Movie, even after all these years.

It's still brilliant, everything about it is far better than a film intended to promote toy robots has any right to be.

I really don't get on with Disney stuff (too much singing and general tweeness) other than a select few films, namely:

Robin Hood
Lion King
The Jungle Book
Alice in Wonderland
Dumbo

Haven't seen the above in over 20 years now though.

Laika are great. I think Missing Link is a little overlooked, it's a really good looking film!

The best stop motion film is easy though. Chicken Run 8-)

I've not yet watched the Netflix sequel. I am somewhat fearful of it...

Ah I thought it was out, but that was just the film festival premiere last week. We've not got netflix at the moment anyway so won't be watching on release.

Hey, I mentioned Chicken Run at least!

The original Wallace and Gromit short films are fantastic, with The Wrong Trousers as the absolute standout. I don't think Wererabbit worked as well as a feature film. Still good, but I prefer both Chicken Run and Flushed Away (a film that passed me by originally but I've more recently reevaluated as really good actually). I went to see an early cut of Early Man and did not like it at all.

I will say that Christmas isn't Christmas without Aardman.

Ninja Scroll is one of my favourite animated movies. To this day I’m convinced Kojima was watching it taking notes when he made MGS3.

I am so happy with the stylized look of CG movies of recent years. The bland Pixar/Disney/DreamWorks look was really starting to get tired. The following are all good examples of this:

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
The Mitchells vs. The Machines
Puss In Boots: The Last Wish
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
Nimona
TMNT: Mutant Mayhem

Another I'd add to my list of recommendations would be A Scanner Darkly, its kind of in a weird limbo between animation and live action but that's what I like about it.

Fire and Ice by Ralph Bakshi is another good looking animated film. It’s a sword and sorcery affair with a barbarian and some allies he meets along the way setting out to deafeat a wizard threatening to destroy the kingdom via his control of the elements.

It was made using rotoscoping so it looks bloody lovely.

I also recommend what I call my favourite Disney film that nobody has ever heard of, it’s called The Small One. It’s an alternate take in the nativity story and was (I think) Don Bluth’s last work with Disney.

Oh it’s a Phillip k dick story. Pardon me for sharing random trivia but Disney almost made a movie based on one of his stories

I think I enjoyed A Scanner Darkly but I was very drunk when I watched it and didn’t really know what was going on. I think it deserves another watch with a clearer head.

I am surprised Porco Rosso is so low on peoples lists. For me it is up there with Naussica, Mononoke and Totoro.

The sadness just permeates everything. The loss of his best friend, the self imposed isolation due to the guilt around his friends death and for falling in love his best friends widow. I think the first real smile he has is when he meets Fio, from there I think he starts to accept and deal with the guilt he holds.

Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise

It has some of the best flying animations out there.
