Or for boys who'd rather save their waistlines and their teeth from 7 teaspoons of sugar in every can of regular Coke/Pepsi. Just sayin'.

When do you reckon I'll die, Atreyu?

Sooner than you would if you avoided chucking that stuff down your throat, good sir. And in the meantime you'll be more overweight and generally have worse health than if you avoided it entirely. #AtreyuPredicts

Very drole. The man asked a question. I answered.

We have bodies that were designed for a diet and lifestyle designed for conditions prevalent 40,000 years ago. Sugared drinks weren't part of the deal, let alone a litre or more of the stuff a day. It will only strawberry float you up.

So I take it you only eat raw meat and grass then?

I find full sugar drinks to be really "heavy", they're quite syrupy and leave a nasty bit of lurg on the throat. I find the no sugar variants much more refreshing.

I drink 4 or 5 cans a day, I used to only drink Diet Coke, but I mix it up a little now as the only no-sugar drink we have in the vending machines at work is Pepsi Max.

A lot of the claims about diet drinks being bad for you were to do with the whole "aspartame gives you cancer" bollocks the Mail and Express trotted out about a decade ago. It wasn't true, obviously, but these sort of headlines do have a habit of hanging around in the public sub-conscious.

I'd also like to point out that I weigh just under 10st. Weight's never been an issue for me.

Why must it always be one extreme or the other? If you're not drinking 3 liters of coke and having mcdonalds every day you're obviously a vegan hippy who eats roots and fungus. No middle ground.

It's almost like evolution isn't a thing.

Humans today are very different from humans 40,000 years ago.

We are biologically identical.

Not really.

Though 40 thousand years isn't a great deal of time in terms of evolution

We are considered the self same species as those modern humans living 40,000 years ago.

Yet there will have been countless small adaptations and mutations since then. I'm pretty sure our average height has increased, for example. Our muscular development will be different, too, as we use very different muscle groups for very different things these days.

This.
The statement that we are identical biologically to humans 40000 years ago is non-sensical, we are continuously changing. In-terms of large adaptations, sure, we haven't changed a lot, but we are certainly not the same

You've countered your own argument there. Our muscle development is different because we use different muscles. Yes. But if ye olde humans had used them, then they'd have the same muscle development, because they're the same as us.

Also, we're only taller because we get better nutrition. It's why asians 50 years ago (and to an extent today) tend to be much shorter, as they had (have) a much less varied diet.

The fact is, we are were we are because we have behaved how we have behaved. To some degree, no matter how minuscule, we have evolved. Forget potential to evolve, because you can trace that as far back as you want.
Height may be largely due to nutrition, but it's a biological distinction between now and 40000 years ago. To say we are identical biologically is wrong.

If you gave a human from back then the same education, upbringing and diet modern folks have, would he or she not be indistinguishable from you or I?

Well we can't know, can we? But it's a fascinating question

Interesting. What would you estimate to be the difference in the genomic sequence (in percentage terms) between a human today and a human 40,000 years ago?

It's not clear from your post whether you also think that sugared drinks are just fine for modern humans, but if you have a justification based in science for that as well then I'd love to hear it.
