I look forward to Alex's inevitable tea time Fox News program.

That whole 'interview' was insane. Morgan asking relevant questions and Jones bringing up infections in hospitals and sharks. He's not making the pro-gun crowd look good.

I think that was the whole point.

He wasn't doing too bad at the beginning, calling Piers out on his debating technique of stressing little factoids with irrelevant implication to deflate his opponent, but he went totally off the rails after that.

Jesse Ventura would have smelt the gunman come in the theatre and popped him in the head from distance with one shot before the kid could massacre everyone. He speaks a lot of sense.

*sigh*

Hmmm just seen on the Yahoo homepage and their breaking news strap says that 'according to local sources, two people have been shot in an incident at a Californian high school'. Has anyone else heard about this story?

Two people shot, no word on their condition yet, gunman arrested by local police.

Let's all sit back and watch as the media once again behaves completely inappropriately and sets the stage for the next shooting in a couple of weeks' time.

Natural Born Killers and Splatterhouse have a lot to answer for.

To be fair from what I watched of it all the people given guns were being set up to fail in order to makes the reports view look stronger.

Also the producer on that youtube show FPS Russia was apparently found murdered recently, and now people are saying it's a conspiracy against pro-gun lobbyists.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/01/0 ... de=1961165

A producer behind a popular gun enthusiast YouTube channel was found dead with a single gunshot wound to the head at his business last week.

Police in Georgia are investigating the apparent homicide of Keith Ratliff, a 32-year-old Franklin County resident.

"It's really heartbreaking, and everything I see, or any kind of memorable thing -- I mean, I just break down," Amanda Ratliff, the victim's wife, told MyFoxAtlanta. "He had such a life to live, and such a good life to live, and things to look forward to."

Authorities found multiple weapons at the scene of the crime, some manufactured by Ratliff himself, WSBTV reports. Investigators have not identified a motive.

Ratliff worked mostly behind the scenes to produce videos for the YouTube channel FPSRussia, a site dedicated to showcasing high-power firearms. FPSRussia -- which commands nearly 3.5 million subscribers and has generated over 500 million page views -- is one of the top 10 channels ranked on YouTube.

In addition to his contributions to FPSRussia, Ratliff also worked for FPS Industries, a company focussing on "product development and testing for hard use firearms shooters," according to its website. FPS Industries is located in Carnesville, Ga.

Ratliff was known as an outspoken gun advocate. In a message posted to Twitter on Aug 11, 2012, he wrote: "I went to the movies with my pistol in my pocket the whole time I was praying that somebody would try to pull a Batman!"

Kitty Wandel, a manager and producer for FPSRussia, released a brief statement regarding Ratliff's passing:

As it seems to be leaking out I will confirm to save more messages and questions coming to me. As I am sure most of you know Keith Ratliff has been with the FPS Russia channel for quite some time now, helping us out with everything from pulling pranks to finding almost impossible weapons to use in videos. It saddens me to confirm that he was indeed found having passed away here in Georgia on Thursday. I do ask for some privacy right now as you can imagine it has shocked us all and our main thoughts and concerns lay with his family right now. Thank you for understanding.

Ratliff had recently moved to northern Georgia for work. His wife and 2-year-old son remain in Kentucky.

Except it is not the reason. The second amendment was create in order reassure southern states that A) the means of slavery would be protected and safe and B) ally their fears of a confrontation, which failed as the civil war happened anyway. Ironically, when the Confederacy did try to overthrow the government they failed and their defeat is regarded as a good thing by all except the most rabid of rednecks.

The constitution says nothing about the use of arms to overthrow government, but it explicitly states that there should be a militia to "suppress insurrection" so it's pretty clear they viewed attempts to overthrow government as something to be fought against. The exact opposite. It's pretty explicit, so I can only interpret anyone saying otherwise as either not having any clue what the constitution says or being willfully deceitful.

I can't watch that because I'm at work but I think, from what I saw before, that Ventura wasn't arguing that the second amendment was written because the people needed the means to overthrow a tyrannical government but that the second amendment should be kept because it provides the people a means to overthrow a tyrannical government.

As in, there's a constitutional right to bear arms (for whatever reason) and that this is worth protecting in order to ensure the people cannot be subjugated by an armed government.

Which is pretty ludicrous, but whatever.

EDIT; I could be wrong, obviously, you guys can check, but I didn't think Ventura actually said the reason for the amendment being written was tyrannical protection, rather that the reason it should be kept is tyrannical protection.

Jesse Ventura is a knobhead. They ripped him apart on the Daily show a few weeks ago.

Alvin, you're our man on the ground over there. What's happening with this? Has this all been forgotten/swept under the carpet?

Has what been forgotten? Gun violence? There is some kind of national debate currently ongoing, but IIRC there haven't been any more big shootings so far.

Also, South Dakota's teachers are now allowed to arm themselves to the teeth to protect students if they want to:

Well, in a way yes (the fact it happens), but more the idea of gun control. Or taking some kind of action following the CT shooting. I've heard lots of talk, but wondered if anything was actually being done.

EDIT: just seen the edit. Okay, cheers. And wow, South Dakota. :dread:
