There's a thing in social psychology which relates to a group mentality. I can't remember the name but it was labelled after a case in New York - I think - where a woman was murdered on her doorstep and left to die. The various witnesses who heard the drama in their own houses didn't do anything because of the collective assumption that someone else better trained would be taking care of it, and getting involved themselves would just be humiliating if they were told they weren't needed.

It does apply to some of these cases (the 17 year old rooftop jumper one in particular) where people will just follow the flock and not do the responsible thing, because they just think that someone else will take care of it.

It has to be one of the most depressing sociological observations ever: being afraid to help in case you look stupid.

The other day my friends g/f saw someone get stabbed in the interchange. So I asked what did you do, or anyone do? Nothing, just carried on :fp:

The evidence suggests that isn't the main reason of not acting, but could be how people justify it to themselves (unless it is someone screaming 'I'll kill you all'. of course).

This is yet another reason for me to believe body-obsessed people shouldn't be counted as human beings.

Don't be so hasty there.

Oh come on, they're a bunch of self-obsessed sub-human wankers, barely capable of communicating with other people, and without the mental capacity to comprehend other people's feelings, or the consequences of their actions.

Someone who wants to put on a bit of muscle isn't human? strawberry float off, you're just basing that on stereotypes.

Ever actually met a bodybuilder? Honest to god, the only topic of conversation they are capable of is themselves.

There's a bit of muscle and there's being completely insane about it. You go into a newsagents and see these magazines with these weird looking creature on the cover and you just knwo they do it because they've got no penis.

Just to be perfectly clear, I am not talking about people who make the occassional trip to the gym and do a few reps. I'm talking about the properly body-obsessed. The kind who only drink protein shakes, and take steroids so they can look like a lumpy mattress. You know, the kind of people who would frequent a bodybuilding forum (if they can work out how to turn the computer on).

Depends who you're talking about, if you're on about the steroid filled tanned and muscles so big they can't wipe their arse than sure, they're probably knobs. I thought you were saying that about people who work on their bodies in general.

And people who don't look after their body clearly are undeserving of owning one and are idle idiots who lack self control  See generalising is fun. Obviously this is terrible, but it really doesnt have anything to do with body builders.
