I was going to suggest this as ours ceases up every year (the first time we use it). I didn't suggest this as I assumed that prior to this problem you had been using it last week. If this was the first time you've used it this year, just turn the heating on for five minutes every 2 weeks throughout the year to make sure it works when you need it

Heating has been on every day mate, but we went way last thursday to boxing day, so that could have done it? We turned the thermostat right down of course.

Yes. Yes it is thank god. The noise when the boiler came back on was like :toot:

Gonna invest in a british gas homecare plan i think, if the boiler ever conks out we have cover up to £250 automatically included in our home insurance.

I have home care 400 it's awesome, I can call in for pretty much anything electric, plumbing and heating and next day I got a fella here to fix it.

Magic stuff.

Ours is £30 something a month for it all. At the moment you also get a bunch of smart bulbs so you can turns light on and off with your phone.

No, I expect you had a different pump related problem and needed a repair rather than someone beating the gooseberry fool out of it with a spanner.

Home care 4 is £17 atm, question, if your boiler dies and needs replacing, what happens? do they replace it or give you funds towards to it?

They will pretty much do nothing but give you a quote, it is a more a we will fix it while it is works sort of a thing not a replace if it goes bang insurance.

The £17 will probably have an excess they have 2 versions of each, one with a £60 excess one without I'm in the without.

They are very good at getting them working and they won't stop fixing it unless is a part they can't get, we have a boiler that's from the 80s and they still service and repair it and can't get most of the bits (it has only broken 3 times in 15 Years) so they won't force you to buy new unless they really really have to.

Good man thanks, theres no excess, no £ limit and unlimited call outs. £17 atm, think youve been done :shifty:

At my old house I signed up to Home care once every couple of years to get fixes  I had lots of trouble with the pump, that always seemed to go wrong. And my first year in the house I couldn't figure how to light the pilot light so I took out homecare for someone to come over and do it for me 8-)

You used to be able to get cashback on homecare, I'm not sure if they still are on those kind of sites though.

I always wondered if this works. Take out a policy, call them the next day, get it fixed for free.

Are you not tied to an annual contract? It would probably work out cheaper than paying for the work though even if you pay for an entire year.

When I did it I think it was a 30 day thing before you could have the work done for free as part of the contract. So me and my friend just wore coats for 30 days until such a time we could have the person come out and not be chargable  I think you pay an excess for parts, but the first call out of mine was just having someone light the pilot light so it was free.

And then it was something like £50 each time I needed a new pump replaced, plus something like £80-100 a year for the 12 months cover after cashback.

My house is electric only now so I have no need for homecare otherwise I would probably still take it out every other year.

30 days before you can have work done? Cheeky bastards, get people to pay for cover but not cover them for a month. :x

I'd be strawberry floating livid if I was paying them to cover my boiler but then had to sit there freezing for weeks.

I thrink they will do a plumbing and electric one. I use it to get plug sockets replaced and light switches when they get broken. Plumbing I've had new plugs because they broke, tap washers and gooseberry fool done, basically anything I can because diy can do one.

Plumbing one is good as it covers drains and plumbing right up to the edge of he property which would be way costly if it went boom.

(From memory) it's chargeable but discounted I think, ie cheaper than calling a plumber out still. And like a mobile contract, you were able to cancel within the first month if you wasn't happy.

It's to stop people like me who'd sign up with already broken systems :shifty:
