Hmmm I have been checking my weight and it has gone up a bit but likely due to the excess stuff in my stomach etc.
Also my gp did a physical examination on my ab area when this first started and said it felt normal.

Also I wouldn't say I know better than a medical professional. But just that none of this IBS medication is having any effect therefore it doesn't seem that I have IBS

You realise you have to stop eating whatever the trigger foods are, such as dairy? You can't just medicate away.

No they already did a coeliac screen looking for antibodies that react to gluten. The test was negative.

I really want to get an endoscopy/see a specialist but my GP said he really doesn't think it is necessary. So I argued that the other GP I saw said an endoscopy would be appropriate but he doesn't think so. So for sake of argument I just left and will book another appointment with a different GP at the surgery.

Also he isn't giving me much confidence. Like today he didn't realise why I came in, asked me what he could do for me. I explained to him that you asked me to come in 4 weeks later after trying the medication. He then basically said, ok so is it all okay now?
Well I wouldn't be returning if it was okay would I?! He asked me if I had difficulty swallowing or passing blood. Both are no.
He checked my weight and felt around my ab area. Again normal.

So he said lets do a coeliac screen. I then had to remind him that it was already done weeks ago. He clicked on his computer and realised...

He then asked me how often I had been taking "omeprazole". I told him consistently everyday for the past month like you told me to do!! So why was he asking?!

So then he said well you should stop all medication for the time being. See what happens and "if you want to come see me then do".

I can't believe this. I just give up in the end and even forgot to ask him about other things like kidney stones etc that could affect the digestive system.

Also I told him with regards to IBS like I said before I am not getting multiple symptoms. Instead I have a bloated stomach and passing stool many times a day all consistently. Not even getting any cramps.
He said IBS symptoms are unpredictable and still thinks its IBS.
I also mentioned that I feel absolutely no immediate from the IBS medication he has given me. As the pharmacist said you should feel immediate effects. My GP then says IBS medication is hit and miss, sometimes it works and sometimes it stops working so people change medication, then that stops and they go back to the previous one and its working again.

I feel like I should book another appointment tomorrow and ask him about kidney stones etc but can't be bothered coz its like he doesn't want to help.

He also recommended I drink probiotics as they could help with wind. Also said its highly stress related...and recommended I take up exercising. I told him I already go to the gym everyday where I do cardio and weights.

I'll have to go back to the previous GP i saw and ask her to refer me for an endoscopy. There must be a valid reason to why this other GP decided on an endoscopy.

For the time being I have bought my own medication, Colpermin which is peppermint oil. My pharmacist recommended it.

Maybe I should remind him of the time when he failed to treat my eczema when I was a kid. He was trying all sorts of steroid creams that didn't work. Until a different doctor finally managed to prescribe me dermovate the most powerful steroid cream which fixed it overnight!

Rant over

Your GP sounds incompetent, change GP immediately or even change to a different practice.

Thank you! Glad I'm not the only one who feels the same. I will look into seeing a different GP for now.

If it's IBS just eat lots of fibre and you'll be fine. Works for me.

It's not quite as simple as that, unfortunately.

Going to see a new GP tomorrow. The GP who wanted to refer me for an endoscopy is not there as she's a locum. Hope this new GP will do something about it.

I have tried eating loads of fibre and it helped initially in terms of stool movement but not my big belly. Colpermin is good when I am really bloated but if i take too much then it gets a bit minty down there lol.

Finally got referred to a specialist in Gastroenterology! :D
Just got to wait 2 more months until my appointment though.

The doctor asked if I ever had a hernia before, I did and he asked to see where I was operated on. I don't know why I didn't think to ask how a hernia would relate to this...now I'm wondering...

A friend of mine has a hernia in his chest and he is swollen up like a balloon. He looks really really fat, but he's just...swollen.

I suffer from IBS and that's what the doctor told me to do and it's worked.

thats interesting. Maybe something inside me has popped out or something...will see what the gastroenterologist finds...
Also the GP had to go and ask my main GP before he referred me as he said we don't usually refer people of your age with these kind of problems...

Thats understandable. IBS isn't the same for everyone, like with the different types of IBS medication it can vary on how affects people.

That's good. Shame it doesn't work like that for everyone.

Go to a pharmacy and get a food intolerance test done. I had similar symptoms for 2 years and doctors were useless. Turns out I've an intolerance to Cows Milk, Beef, and yeast. Limited my intake of these and I'm now symptom free.

It's the proteins in these foods rather than the sugars I was intolerant to so it's different to lactose intolerance which is related to the sugar.

You could get a job in the cinema with that level of projection.
