Anyone got experience with trading in Consoles at CEX? EDIT: or GAME

As per the title. Got a load of high value goods to trade in and their cash prices seem reasonable, so can I expect to be sat for 3 hours while my consoles etc get tested? Also are they likely to pull a scummy price reduction while im at the counter because of the quality of my goods (even though its all nearly mint and boxed)?

I tried to flog them an old phone once. They gave me a price and then said they needed to test it and I'd have to come back in an hour. An hour later they said the phone was fine but they didn't have enough money in the tills to pay me. :fp:

I've not bothered trying to sell them anything since then.

I think I'd be more suspicious of doing it by mail. That loss of control would freak me out a little bit, TBH. Plus you can't argue the toss with them.

........ monkey tennis?

Same question with GAME ( :dread: ) then. Christ I can almost smell the B.O. and McDonalds stained superdry tracksuit bottoms already.

I traded in a PS3 there about 6 years ago, no problems and they offered me a fairly decent amount. I seem to remember there was a slight fault with it that they didn't pick up on which I was quite pleased with :shifty: think I went off for an hour or two before coming back with the testing all done.

I've only ever traded games at Game and it's always gone smoothly. I'd be wary of the same "no money in the tills" issue though, maybe ring them before you bother going in and check they have enough cash available?

I used to enjoy a nose around GAME. Back when I had less cash, and before widespread internet shopping and digital downloads.

There was something compulsive about checking the preowned bits on a regular basis in the hope you might stumble across a bargain.

Shockingly, I'm probably thinking of about 18 years ago. :dread:

Same here, I still look through the entire shelf of gooseberry fool hoping i'll spot a Metroid Prime Trilogy or something, then one day I DID spot one and found it was priced at £60 :fp:

Cheers guys, guess i'll need to allow a lot more time to do this than I thought.

If you set up a CEX account before you go and fill in all your details they can transfer the money straight into your bank account.

As above - they'll test things (basically just play with it for a bit). Takes about an hour and you can go elsewhere (if you trust them) during.

You do have to hope they have enough Cash available to trade in (could call before)

PS4 500gb with Destiny
iphone 5 32gb
ipad 2 64gb
logitech G27

All boxed and mint apart from the iphone, which has some chips to the butter material outsides.

I've also got a 27" imac to sell but strawberry float taking something like that there.

Normally takes between 15 mins - 1 hour as they will want to test things and it depends how busy they are so try and go there at a non busy times. I've traded in a PS3, 360 and Sony wireless headphones before. Best thing to do is plan to drop the stuff off for testing and have something else to do in town before returning.

If you have a smaller CEX nearby go there rather than a big one in a large city, especially if going at a weekend.

There's a small one in a town not far from me and I've traded in consoles where they've tested them while I wait or at worse in 15-20 mins.. whereas I've traded in to ones in Derby or Nottingham and had to go back after 2 hours.

For the phone (and maybe the ipad) carphone warehouse are worth a look. I traded in my S6 edge to there recently, they pay the money onto your debit card - they said it could be 3-5 says before it hit my account but it showed up next day though guess that may depend on your bank.

They also literally just check the phone works (turns on, screen responds, buttons work) so the testing took about a minute, I was in and out in a few mins. You can check the price on the website too though the in-store prices can be slightly different. The website said £220 for my phone whereas in store they offered £210 which was about £30 more than CEX would pay for it.

They also don't need the box or any accessories so get to keep your charger etc..

I've sold stuff to CeX by mail a load of times and never had any issues. They have always given the quoted price for the goods I've sent them bar one game which they said was in poor condition (TBF it was). They buy seemingly anything too. I had all sorts of tat clogging up my drawers that nowhere else would take like Buzz controllers, Scene It controllers, 360 HD DVD drive and films etc. and they bought it all. They even paid me slightly more than what I originally paid for my Legendary Halo 3 and Complete Planet of the Apes box set that came in a bust of a chimpanzee head.

I tried to sell my HD-DVD drive to Cex in-store and was told by the manager they wouldn't take it. I went back in later and asked someone else and got a fiver for it. Would've loved to see the guy's face when he saw that unfloggable shite he'd turned down show up in his stock room

I remember trading in my 360 to game years back, when the elite was announced (I only traded asy 360 would get the dreaded RRoD) all the testing the did was switch it on, put a game in, it loaded and they were done. Glad it didn't red ring there at the time.

Take some photos and send them to Cash converters - they'll email you back a price.

Cheers everyone. Seems game are doing an extra pounds per game and extra tenner per console, so I'm going to take it all and a bag full of games there first thing (while the scum are still sleeping off their super brew hangovers). That'll give me time to wander around if need be and I can always go to the nearby cex with the ipad etc.
