Well, we have our players, we have:

False - A Golbin Bard named Pompo

Image

Nun - A Hill Dwarf Druid named Osrick Gaelstan

Image

Roonmaster - A Human Monk name Miller

Image

Kazzer - A Wood Elf Range named Colwyrr Finwë

Image

Stugene - A Tabaxi Rogue named Lock on an Open Door

Image

I'll pop in the names of the characters they creat wen they are made, we should be starting this Thursday and it should be fortnightly.

Old OP:
If enough people are interested I was wondering if you fancied some D&D. I was thinking of grabbing the Dungeon Master stuff on Roll20 and trying to DM, but as I haven't DMd a game it may go a little slowly. Anyone who wants to join is welcome.

So far we have:
Roonmaster
LewisD (if we can work around the lack of a computer)
False
Shyguy64 (Possibly)
Nun
Kezzer

Hey Pedz, happy to participate. I've not done Roll20 before, but have done a bit of D&D.

I know you can use roll 20 on your phone, but I think that's for character rolls and stuff, you wouldn't be able to see the "game board" Unless you have a tablet as well? You could use the tablet to join discord and someone could stream the game board on there for you to view?

This is really tempting, especially after listening to TAZ, but would worry I would be awful to be available at certain times or reliable. Cool idea though, and interested to hear how it goes.

Love D&D and really excited to hear about this adventure. As mentioned in the other thread, probs can't play because I have terrible availability (feel like turning up once every three weeks wouldn't be ideal...!), but very interested -- let us know what's going on in the game so we can follow along!

Never played Dungeons and Dragons but it has always intrigued me, imagine sessions would be held later on in the evenings though as it'd be easier for the majority? Would probably mean due to shifts at work I'd most likely be unavailable.

People taking part would jump in Discord to talk and use Roll20 for all the rolls and tabletop stuff, as it has a virtual table top. You can create the character on Roll20 too, so you'll be sorted there as well.

I've never played D&D, but would be interested, however, I feel like I wouldn't be able to commit to regularly being available at an agreed time, and suspect this wouldn't work otherwise, so I'm probably out, but it would be cool to read the progress if this does go ahead.

I really don't get on with Roll20 and my availability will be next to nothing in a couple of months. I hope it goes well though and I look forward to reading about the progression.

I'm very interested but can't commit to regular sessions so wouldn't want to take a space from someone who could play more regularly.

I see that a few people have posted similar issues - would a game work via forum posts in a similar manner to chess by post? We could post our actions in the thread and Pedz could resolve them in Roll 20/run the game as a DM kind of like AYA?

Roll20 works a bit like a videogame, where you can see the level with players and NPCs and monsters on it, and you have buttons to press to access your abilities and so on. You'd host a session for a few hours where you all play the level together, kind of like an instance in an MMORPG.

D&D by post (i.e. forum thread!) is pretty different to that. It absolutely can work though. You would want it to be a bit more asynchronous, like you describe -- where you have a chunk of time for anyone who wants to to describe what their character does, and then the DM resolves everything and posts an update. Like you say, it's a bit like AYA?.

No reason why Pedz couldn't do Roll20 and someone else couldn't run an AYA? style thread -- I would definitely play in a thread!

I'd be interested if there's space, I've played a decent amount of D&D over Roll20 and Discord :toot:

That's pretty much how I ran that Resident Evil 2 forum game about 18 years ago. Just gave people plenty of time to PM me where they wanted to go, what to investigate, etc and then I just wrote up freeform how things panned out for everyone.

That's impressive, Zilnad! I was about to come in and say that the roleplay aspect of D&D makes it to difficult to type up all events on the fly, and if you move to a thread then the most active party member just drives the narrative alone / someone afk stops the action.
