Definitely go yourself. I spent a couple of months in the States myself a few years ago and loved it. As others have said, the freedom to come and go as you please is a huge thing.

I am prepared to dress up and go by a different name for a free holiday.

I think going on holiday without the need to drag around or get dragged around to come to an unending concensus about what to do rather than just doing stuff is underrated.

I mean, going on solo holidays can be fun, but to gran canaria?!

Do go on it by yourself and i hope you enjoy it but heading there sounds like my worst nightmare. Brits abroad

Admittedly I have no idea what this place is, I was thinking somewhere cool like Japan, Germany, USA etc. you can explore.

Edit:

A suggestion if you don't want to go by yourself, you might want to see if your credit card has trip cancellation insurance built in.

Lot's of higher tier cards have all sorts of travel benefits so it might be worth looking into.

Gran Canaria has some great cycling routes. So whilst you're out there, hire a bike and explore the island

Cycling is an amazing way to space out and actually get to know a place rather than just the tourist hotspots.

Plus you can find the best place to get ham egg and chips with a black and white photocopy of the mirror.

I've been on holiday alone a couple of times. If you have stuff to keep yourself busy like reading a book and chilling or exploring a vast city depending where you are then it's fine.
