Have you watched the video?

He bought it, it ended up broken. He went in and was happy to pay for the repair. Apple proceeds to tard it about.

I dont care about fanboying any youtube people or whatever, but its clear to see a pattern of anti-consumer behaviour from Apple over the years and its clear to see certain aspects are worsening in several respects.

DISCLAIMER: I own several Apple products for myself and my family and use them every day.

I imagine their beef would be his dismantled it and broke it rather than just breaking it.

I imagine apple repairs are if there are other issue at point repair they do them and as he dismantled it there could be any number of extra issues they would need to cover.

It doesnt really matter. Apple should be able to provide me Apple spares or replacement service for their hardware. Simple.

I had to argue with an apple genius for about 40 minutes to get a replacement power supply that frayed and created a fire hazard by basically setting fire to itself, they're not exactly easy to work with when it comes to consumer rights.

I've had to buy a few different parts from recyclers as authorised resellers won't get them. Currently I need to replace a capacitor that demonstrably fails because it does not handle the correct voltage and heat, a flaw Apple repeated in about 5 years of laptops because who cares when your target market will just buy a new one. Their extended warranty policy following class action lawsuit had a deadline that realistically was only valid for about 30 days after everyone's machines would have already failed.

O wait it looks like I've already posted in this thread, SoK I'm not sure who you're arguing with. Apple suck in this department.

"It should be common sense to just accept the message Nintendo are sending out through their actions."

I did, and I remain stubbornly unaffected by it. We don't know exactly what happened as he clearly has an agenda. Yes, Apple come off looking extra shitty but that's the whole point of the video. Perhaps he strawberry floated the thing more than he's letting on. Perhaps he's playing Apple's response up for views (perhaps, ha).

I believe that Apple were and are shitty and accept that this was probably an example of this. But Linus is a hyperbolist by trade and I inherently distrust any series of events narrated solely by him and his team.

Nothing in particular, but they're a YouTube channel fuelled and funded by views and clicks. It's in their interests to stir up this sort of controversy which makes this sort of thing inherently untrustworthy.

The terrible customer service and machine durability has been pretty widely reported on and court cases have been won about both so it just depresses me when people try and claim Apple are so great and all it's products are amazing with anyone who says anything bad about them obviously just not being able to afford them and thus jealous.

I long for the day when they become just another tech company and don't have this almost angelic aura to it's fans.

i think theres healthy scepticism and then theres blanket paranoia and distrusting everything they say (despite documented evidence of Apple's previous anti-consumer actions, plus current efforts to put 3rd party repair services and parts out of business) falls on the blanket side of things

Anyone notice how Apple's charging cables routinely begin to turn black. It's rather disconcerting.

You could make the same claim about any news organisation in the free world who are funded by advertising. Why is youtube any different?
I'm not trying to defend youtube as I'd rather get my news from somewhere like the BBC or Reuters who have long histories of balanced and professional journalism but as I said the claim you make can be pointed at all news outlets who have to make a profit.

The only thing worse than a youtube channel with terrible video thumbnails is a popular youtube channel

Because they are unregulated. Because they have no lineage. Because I've watched his previous videos. By stating you can make similar claims of unreliability against established news sources brings these sources into comparison with YouTube channels such as this. I would refute that comparison, for the reasons above and many others, including:

- These channels have no journalistic responsibility of truthfulness (even Fox news tends to err towards heavily spun versions of facts)
- These channels have no legal necessity to discuss sponsored content, as far as I know
- These channels do not present themselves as news sources at all and are not bound by any of the standards this would imply
- These channels exist in a hyper competitive marketplace where one dude and a camera can make £17 million a year. Hyperbole and showmanship win, always.

For recommendations on what monitor to buy, perhaps I'd browse channels such as this with a very careful eye. But for the sort of consumer journalism they claim to be doing here? Not in a million years.

And, let me repeat, I know Apple are shitty. What I'm saying is that this video's inherent biases meant it made no difference to how I feel about this issue.

I agree with everything you just said it just seemed like you were saying all news outlets who have to make a profit are somehow untrustworthy which was odd.
As I said I don't get my news from youtube and I tend to view everything on it as opinion (that's the same view I have of Fox news) rather than hard facts.

I will use youtube in a discussion but I wouldn't claim they're hard facts in the same way I would something like Wiki (which some still have problems with if they think it has a liberal bias) which I feel most will trust.

It doesnt matter who is telling the story. Man wants to replace screen on Apple product, Apple refusing to supply part or approve repair. If its more than the screen they should supply whatever else it is as well. At the customers cost of course, he voided the warranty after all.

If I dropped my Samsung TV and strawberry floated the screen I would expect Samsung to be able to supply me with a new screen somewhere in the service chain.

Well, it does. What if the story is false? Or if important facts have been left out in order to make the story fit with a predefined narrative?

I'm not saying that's what happened here, but the chance of events being hyperbolised to at least some degree is so great in this case that it makes the story itself meaningless in terms of evidence to be held against Apple.

Check out Louis Rossman Apple repairs to see the kind of anti consumer shite they are doing (and getting away with).
