Well here's quote of the day for this dull Monday. Apple CEO Steve Jobs just announced that he believes that iPod touch is "the best portable device for playing games". He's not joking - the new version of NFS Undercover was shown for it and it looks the roxxors.

I do believe this is the point where we mail Mr Jobs a million photocopied :fp:s and let him cry.

A CEO talking bullshit about a company product. Wow.

Serioulsy people, why get worked up when execs say these things? Do you exspect them to downplay their stuff? Of course not, they are going to hype it as much a possible. No need to accuse them of 'lies'; anyone can see that anyway.

From a power perspective maybe but as far as input goes, no.

I have played a few clever games for the touch, but have you looked at the store lately, 99% of the stuff on their is complete sh!t it makes the Wii release schedule look utterly fantastic.

But I will say it has a lot of potential once it gets into the right developers hands.

For a device that is primarily meant for gaming is incredible what can be done, just look at Aurora Feint, there's countless hours of playability there!
Of course, it can't compete with conventional control methods, but there are some things it can do better than other platforms.

It's pretty good, but it's clear the note charts are being randomly generated and the iPod buttons don't feel entirely satisfactory compared to normal joypad buttons. Still it's not half bad, especially for £4

all well and good having the power, but until its correctly marketed towards the gaming crowd it'll never attract any major games developers to risk investing in it.
i for one think my cock is "the best portable device for playing games"

I wouldnt call it the best handheld ever (Still the PSP. Come on, its me) but possibly it is the best portable device for games, in that carrying around your ipod and games console in the same device takes up a lot less pocket space, and the iphone even more so. The PSP and the DS at the very least require a satchel or coat pocket to carry around. They werent meant for jeans!

Please do not mock the iphones control methods until you have tried them. There is one good racing game on the DS (MKDS) and 2 on the PSP (Both WipEout games) and both only really work with a d-pad. The tilt controls of the iphone are perfect for racing games, as well as a lot of other titles as well. Monkey ball is much better once you get the hang of the controls and again much better than the PSP and DS iterations. I hope someone decides to convert Mercury over. That would be a perfect fit.

They dont have God of War or Phantom Hourglass. The iphone is never going to worry Nintendo but it shows Sony how to properly intergrate a games console and a multimedia device and it shows Nokia just how much they have blown it with the N-Gage.

For me it is, as I cant be arsed to pay 30 quid for a handheld game knowing I will hardly play it, so the sort of games the iphone offers are perfect for quick plays on the move.

OK, there are 2 good racing games on the DS: Mario Kart and GRID. Everything else (Burnout, N4S, RR) is crap. Name me one more good racing game other than those two.

and 2 on the PSP (Both WipEout games)

OK, Ill agree with you here: Racing is pretty much the PSPs best Genre: RR, FlatOut, WipEout, TDU and Outrun 2006 are all great games. Burnout sucked though and so did Sega Rally.

Monkey ball is much better once you get the hang of the controls and again much better than the PSP and DS iterations.

The DS iteration is horrible with the touchscreen and lets not even bother mentioning SMB Adventure on the PSP.....

I hope someone decides to convert Mercury over. That would be a perfect fit.

3/4 isnt bad. ;)
