I thought all along that they’d get round the requirement by keeping Lightning but including a USB-C adapter.

Oh, you mean lightning on the device but an adapter to connect to it? I doubt that’d be enough to fly with the EU.

They already have USB-C on iPad Pro, I think iPhone using it was really only a matter of time. But then again, it only needs it for connecting accessories, and Apple want your phone to be wireless. The cable is only for charging, really. Wired syncing is a bit of a relic.

The change isn’t all upside, to be honest. A device that sits in your pocket is inevitably going to pick up lint in every port and lightning’s greatest strength is the ease with which it can be de-gunked safely, while USB-C ports are terrible for that.

I think the EU ruling is that devices have to have a USB-C port on the device.

Thinking about upgrading my 12 to a 15. Just hoping there's some decent stuff to make me jump, cos if it's just a 14 with added dynamic island and USB-C i'm probably not going to bother.

EDIT: When you think about it, an ipad mini 6 with the A15 bionic goes for around 450-500 these days and is probably a far better use of cash if you use your device predominantly at home, considering the iphone 15 will probably be 800 ish

Oh thank god they’ve improved the camera. Just what everyone was crying out for.

It’s really much of a muchness these days, isn’t it? I like that it now goes up to 120mm but Apple’s ‘pro’ iPhones tend to be used by a mass market audience who will never be bothered (or indeed could save themselves a small fortune and buy a Pixel 7)

The A17 this year is a massive thing though. Apple continue to way ahead of the competition when it comes to raw processing and this years’ announcement of it playing actual PS4-level games widens the app parity gap with Android even more. It doesn’t matter how they play, just that it can.

I mean, it’s probably one of the biggest selling points for the iPhone. The cameras are generally excellent, particularly so on the Pros. I take loads of photos (Currently at 2795 in 2023) so it’s pretty much the most important feature for me.

And to be fair to them, there have been some pretty big improvements in terms of low light performance and stabilisation in the past few years. Add all these incremental upgrades together and when you upgrade you get quite a nice jump. I’ve had an iPhone X, iPhone 12 and now a 14 Pro and can almost always tell which phone a given photo was taken on.

I use the cameras for my work.

Better they are, the easier my work is. It’s my biggest pull.

I like the new Titanium casing. Trade in value of my 13 pro comes out at £430. Hmmm

It’s USB-C 2.0 (480Mbps) in the iPhone 15 and Plus, first introduced back in 2001, rather than 3.0 (10Gbps) in the Pro models. Thunderbolt 5 on the way for next year, but Apple probably won’t use it until 2025 at the earliest.

I don't plan on upgrading from my XR this year, hoping to get at least 5 years out of it and I bought it back in January 2019, at least upgrading every few years it actually feels like a nice step rather than just minimal changes. Talking of the camera, it's still very good on my XR (in my opinion at least, obviously don't use it for much) but generally it still does the job I want fine. Battery life is still very good on it, using it minimally I can still get around 3 days, if I use it normally (which wouldn't be a lot compared to some) I get about 2 days. Are they including USB-C cables? or just a crappy adaptor for USB-C to lightning?

There is a phone, a USB C to USB C cable, a SIM release key and an Apple sticker in the box.

I thought I’d be more tempted to upgrade from my 13 Pro Max than I am. The dynamic island is probably the biggest draw of the device itself over my current phone, and that’s not really functional, just extremely slick design. After that the only things I can really care about are the crash detection and satellite SOS but even then, not really something you look forward to ever using.

So the main appeal, really, is to just put another second hand iPhone of mine into the hand-me-down train, pulling more of my family into the Apple ecosystem and eliminating another Android phone I’ll have to do perpetual tech support for.

Gonna do my Upragede Program upgrade and get the 256GB 15 Pro Max in black.

The official case colour options are so disappointing this year.

I originally looked on the Apple site but it was saying delivery early October (I should have gone with that) but I wanted one on launch so I looked around and the only place showing in stock for a sim free one was on the EE store, I ordered on the 15th expecting delivery this Friday but I have just checked my order status and it says the above in my last post, I’m going to try on Amazon on Friday as they have also said not available so may show stock on Friday hopefully

My sister is looking at replacing her 10 year old iMac but the newests model has a smaller screen and has fairly poor specs so she's thinking of opting for the top spec mac mini and a seperate monitor.

the Studio Display is out of budget at nearly £1700, does anyone have an idea for a more budget friendly monitor option (circa £400 ish)?

Even £400 seems like a lot to spend on a monitor...

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.
